Beck kicked off his seven-week North American tour at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada. The show opened with “Devil’s Haircut” and continued on a 23-song set that weaved tracks like “Chemtrails” and “Gamma Ray” from his most recent album, the Danger Mouse-produced Modern Guilt, in with old favorites like “Loser,” the song perhaps most responsible for introducing the world to the quirky singer and his Beat-like poetry (”In the time of chimpanzees, I was a monkey/Butane in my veins and I’m out to cut the junkie”). The show boasted folk rocker Devandra Banhart as an opener, who joined Beck on the stage for his own “Hey Mama Wolf” (which Beck hailed as his son’s favorite song) and a rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat.” Beck’s tour continues throughout the States, with a stop at the Hollywood Bowl, where the famed Hollywood Bowl Orchestra Strings conducted by his father, David Campbell, will play a sold-out show at the spacious outdoor venue.
The eclectic singer-whose music draws upon but is not limited to folk, country, hip-hop, pop, blues, R&B, jazz, indie and experimental rock, psychedelia, funk, lounge and Brazilian music-emerged in the midst of the alternative resurgence in the ’90s as the perfect answer to the media age. Beck is unable to confine to one genre, as his musical style features odd juxtapositioning of sounds that only he would try together. His unpredictable music, which basically has something for everyone, features lyrics that read like free-association poetry with humor and honesty thrown in for good measure.
Beck David Campbell was born in Los Angeles in 1970 to conductor and string arranger father David Campbell (who has lent his talents to Beck’s records) who left the family when he was a young child. Beck adopted the last name of his mother Bibbe Hansen, who had been a fixture at Andy Warhol’s Factory and appeared in the iconic artist’s film Prisoner. The creativity continues through Beck’s lineage, as his grandfather Al Hansen, a prominent figure in the Fluxus art movement, helped jumpstart the career of Yoko Ono. Beck spent a lot of time with his grandfather in Europe and with his other grandfather in Kansas while growing up in L.A., but dropped out of school after his sophomore year to concentrate on music. Beck self-produced a cassette of home recordings titled The Banjo Story in 1988 and moved to New York one year later but soon returned out West.
In 1991 Bong Load label owners Tom Rothrock and Rob Schnapf approached the struggling singer about recording some folk songs laced with hip-hop beats; the result was “Loser” and several other revolutionary tracks. The following year Beck inked a published deal with BMG and in 1993 he issued his first official releases, the single “MTV Makes Me Want to Smoke Crack” and the full-length cassette-only Golden Feelings. Bong Load finally released “Loser” and the single was an instant smash on indie radio stations in L.A., spawning a major label bidding war won out by Geffen (which allowed Beck to continue to release noncommercial material on independent labels). Mellow Gold was Beck’s major label debut in 1994 and Geffen re-released “Loser,” making the song the anthem for the slacker generation and allowing Mellow Gold to go platinum. After a string of small indie releases, Beck embarked on his first major promotional tour and issued his sophomore major label effort, Odelay, in 1996.
Critics were undecided about Beck after Mellow Gold, but the singer received unanimously positive reviews with his second major label album; Odelay was a commercial success with a succession of MTV hits like “Where It’s At” and “The New Pollution” and was lauded by critics as well. Although Beck released the mellow Mutations in 1998, the official follow-up to Odelay came with 1999’s Midnight Vultures, which was succeed by 2002’s folk album, Sea Change. While Beck’s collaboration with French electronic duo Air and his previous two albums were decidedly more trippy, his 2005 album Guero was a conscious return to Beck’s Odelay days. The album featured radio staples like “Hell Yes” and “E-Pro” and was followed by a remixed version of the album titled Guerolito later that year. The hip-hip influenced record, The Information, appeared in 2006 and two years later Modern Guilt paved the way for the singer’s current tour. The singer is sure to pack stadiums so get your Beck tickets soon and watch out for notable openers like Spoon and Band of Horses.

India 2009 began with uncertainty, not only because of the global financial crisis, but also tensions over the nation's national security following the apparent ease in which terrorists were able to penetrate many of the major focal Mumbai with indifference, arriving by sea, near the Gateway of India, a central point in the city. India remained stoic face events such as the Indian economy remained relatively unaffected by the events worldwide. Unlike China, with an exhibition of about 40 percent of its total economy in providing of world exports, India was less affected. Their relationship more stable internal consumption, and a wealthy middle class - interesting about the same size China at around 300 million people - continued to spend the country out of real danger.
Indian exports to the West account for about 20 percent of its total economy - half the exposure of China - and although the pain caused by the export sector, the government stepped in to help with a massive stimulus plan prosecutor, in any case. This has been largely snapped up by Indian consumers buy cheap car, as the government tries to wean the rural population of India ox and wagon and minivans. "Small is beautiful" in terms of car sales came at the right time for India, Tata Nano could become in an iconic vehicle worldwide. With a car emerging sector in India ready to offer rural employment opportunities in a variety of related industries, Ox converting the car is set to spearhead India's rise as an economic power. The green movement, horrified at the prospect of 10 million Indian driving gasoline-powered vehicles, a slight consolation of a concerted effort to give India LPG engines, unlike China, LPG gas filling stations are becoming a common sight in many service stations.
A mandate for reform The main event of the year was, of course, general election, which became the first prime minister in India in nearly 40 years. The Congress Party won a majority, in fact, it is the first time in twenty years since India has a government not too impressed by having to trade horses with coalition partners. That era political deadlock that has coincided with China's rise over the same period has ended. India is equipped with a mandate from his people to move forward, and a business friendly government reform and mind in the position, changes in India are precipitated. To demonstrate the level of, and desire for change, India's first tax reforms for 50 years are being pushed through parliament in movements that see an overall reduction in taxes for many. Sectors previously off limits to foreign investors are opening. In fact, my own company is licensed to practice full in May - just three months after the changes in the law that made it possible. Our ability to collect for certain services has been restricted to the last two years of our operations in India. The opening of the market sectors to foreign investors is a growing trend local market as barriers are being demolished in the name of competition and free trade.
India has often been criticized for its lack of infrastructure, and in fact, many of the problems come from India to a lack of investment in many sectors, hampered by lack of political will fermented by a succession of two decades political stagnation. While China has made great strides, India has lagged behind. China Shanghai Port can turn around a ship in terms of cargo and discharge in less than eight hours, while for comparison, in Mumbai it takes three days. national road infrastructure in India - the Golden Quadrilateral, and Corridor NSEW - have not yet been built. vehicles in India need special permits to travel interstate and rarely seen outside their own backyard. However, the lack infrastructure in India has become the opportunity. As China now has high-speed trains and maglev trains, the world's attention is turning India to provide construction, goods and services to raise the national infrastructure in a platform more in line with the 21st century a country of 1.3 billion. As we wrote in the November issue of India Briefing "Investing in public-private partnerships in India" The Indian government will provide financial support foreign investors wishing to participate in rebuilding the nation. It may well prove to be a construction boom, construction and development that can make China's development over the past 20 years pale in comparison. Foreign investors involved in architecture, construction and infrastructure development at all levels should be sending executives to India at this time to evaluate the possibilities. While China is restructuring its base economy, India is ready to accept with gratitude the foreign direct investment in developing the national economy a much-needed infrastructure. Growth of global GDP over the next two decades will be directed by development of India and not China.
A domestic market of China's size Coupled to that is the opportunity to participate in another major selling opportunity. India, like China, has a huge population and a middle class of approximately the same size. More aligned to Western tastes than the Chinese, and culturally accessible markets in India, also a great opportunity to sell. Not in vain have brands such as Bugatti, with a super car costs $ 500,000, established showrooms in Mumbai. Busy so are the restaurants, bars and social venues meeting. Mumbai today is booming, with queues to get in popular restaurants. Shanghai seems quiet by comparison.
However, India still has an image problem in the West. "Dirty" is a common perception, and other food. Part of this relates to indigenous traditions, which are difficult change. However, regardless of the sacred into a sacred cow that is, it would be prudent to have them wandering in controlled areas and not freely along the roads and the main shopping areas. India needs to adapt some of their cultural habits to make life more attractive and a little less chaotic in appearance. As investors Foreigners have become comfortable with China - a trip to Shanghai is appreciated - A trip to Mumbai may be covered by a different reaction.
Moreover, like China is different, so is India. India has a combination of 35 states and union territories, a number similar to the collection of China's 34 provinces, autonomous, special administrative regions and municipalities. Investors familiar with China will have to learn about India and its diversity of culture. An adaptation to a different culture, coupled with an understanding of the importance of people in the faith of many of India and the diversity of their ethnic origin, near the tribes should be out. While China has in many ways become soft deliberately make it easier to attract foreign direct investment, India is much more demanding. However, the rewards are there.
Infrastructure to drive growth for the next decade As for the performance of the country in 2009, the government Indian has been, like China, very optimistic about the growth of the economy last twelve months. However, while the smell of manipulation and lack of transparency surrounding China figures, free media and research with government accountability tend to keep the leaders of India's most precise, and even conservative in their statements. Consequently, India's growth of around 7 percent a year seems reasonable and is probably correct. Speaking of growth GDP of around 8 percent for 2010 appears again, and most importantly reasonable and sustainable. India's growth is beginning to be fed by the remodeling its infrastructure and this should be a tendency for ten years, possibly more.
In addition, the Indian rupee, unlike the Chinese RMB, is a traded international currency fully convertible. No political or financial concerns about the handling of the U.S. dollar pegs or any other currency. With less dependence exports to the U.S., India can afford to be separated from other major economies in a way that China can not. Moreover, the current Indian government is headed by a respected economist - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is a first class honors degree in Economics from Oxford University, has spent five years as minister the country of Finance and is a recognized expert in the global economy. The rest of the top leaders of the Indian government are also a combination of economists and lawyers, it makes sense: economists to balance and promote national growth, balance of payments and reinvest, and attorneys to promote constitutional reform. It is revealing that the boom China in the last twenty years has been led by the Chinese leaders well versed in engineering, and this continues to this day. China's current economic problems and the inseparable nature of their exposure to U.S. exports needs the wisdom of an Indian, Manmohan Singh, whose 1964 book "Export from India Trends and prospects for sustained growth "was an early critic of the trade policy of India. India is therefore unlikely to enter the class of problems China now faces.
Production out of balance with technology However, there are problems in manufacturing capabilities of India. Whereas China has invested admirably in the education of your workforce semi-skilled and skilled, India has lagged behind. While India's cheap labor, investors will have to spend time in training as was the case in China for fifteen years. This gap between the skills of Indian and Chinese workers will be closed over time, but for now, an economic comparison must be put in place to match the benefits of employment of Chinese workers into higher wages and a more welfare and employment protection against a training indigenous labor, whose wages are lower but they require training. It's an equation that will be increasingly relevant as companies seek to move production from China to India or elsewhere in Southeast Asia.
However, unlike China, India has made significant inroads in its technology and service sectors, which now represents about 55 percent of its GDP. While India needs to reduce this ratio to develop manufacturing to meet the massive infrastructure investments and developments in the country has begun to take on, the nation seems to have IT industry developed a sound basis for the demands of the 21st century. That rules India, and the best and brightest have strong partnerships with schools of I + D in the United States and beyond. Fluency in English is a major driver. This is a very different economic model than China that has been created from the development industry's low-end, and is now struggling to move beyond that in a national level. India already has added value services, and dependence on India on an economic basis is strongly rooted in IT development come to fruition.
Relations with China In other areas, however, India and China share common interests, particularly on climate change issues in Copenhagen, where they both stood firm as a whole, as well as security, where a common struggle against Islamic extremism is of potential interest to both. A sticking point is the position of India on the Dalai Lama, and the host government Tibetan exile to India, which China considers subversive. Concern about the death of the Dalai Lama - who is 74 and it is rumored that the bad guys - are more likely to impact in China than in India. However, a reincarnation of the Dalai Lama found in Indian territory could create serious diplomatic pressure between the two countries. India also still has flaws in their marriage. The recent debacle on the creation of a new state of Telangana certainly could have been avoided, and they appear to be in the best interests of the Indian Union as a whole. India will need to manage their boundary lines of historical failure if this is not impacting on the development they need.
Looking ahead for India in 2010, expect the economy to rebound and move rapidly towards a sustainable 8 percent to 9 percent annual growth GDP. In this regard, India is almost certain to show faster growth than China has a place in the coming years. Its economy will be driven for infrastructure development and China has been. Exports are also likely to increase and get somewhere in the region of U.S. $ 200billion - relatively small beer compared with China in general, but from a much lower base. The nation is entering a period of growth, the dynamism and prosperity unprecedented since independence, and whether this country can avoid conflict with Pakistan and damaging terrorist attacks of fanatical, the future looks bright. While the nation is very different from China, is in many ways to embark on a similar journey. India will be successful in managing its economy - Which appears to be well much needed reforms can do, and momentum - finally provided the political structure. Investors worldwide must be to evaluate of India as a top priority for the provision of infrastructure and real knowledge, and this will boost the economy of much of the next decade, along with an explosion of domestic purchasing power of India.
Predictions
* Real GDP growth 2010: 8 percent to 9 percent * The internal security to be tightened on the borders with Pakistan and China * Some tensions remain with China because of problems with Dalai Lama, but the bilateral trade increase * International investment opportunities: projects currently massive demand for investment in related infrastructure, as well as consumption expanding domestic market for foreign products at all levels, local purchasing considerations must be applied to the second level of destinations * Foreign investors will have to look beyond the perceptions of the dirt and poverty

Weddings evoke many feelings, the beautiful décor, the fabulous cake, the wonderful camaraderie and of course the event itself. Everything just seems to go off without a hitch and the day couldn’t be better. Now it’s your turn to plan your special day and something you really want is a nice set of wedding toasting flutes.
When choosing the perfect set of wedding toasting flutes, there are several factors to consider such as if you are looking for something more traditional or if you are thinking of making a bold, new statement to start your marriage off. Sometimes you will need to make note of whether or not they are crystal or merely glass. Another consideration would be if you could purchase more than one set of two, or perhaps in sets of four.
A wonderful idea is to have the wedding toasting flutes monogrammed. When having the engraving done, you can choose from a variety of fonts to create a memorable souvenir to hand down for generations. They can even put different initials on them that will specify if they are for the bride or the groom.
For the important people in your life, and the members of your wedding party, there is nothing so nice to cherish as a wedding toasting flute. One option that is particularly nice is to have the name of either the bride or the groom and the date engraved onto the flute. The parents of the bride would find it to be a lovely gift to have their daughters’ name and the date of her wedding on a pair of wedding toasting flutes. Their names could also be engraved; creating a wonderful gift that could be used for many occasions in the future.
Some wedding toasting flutes break away from the traditional mold and bear twisted, spiraled stems or gold trim to add a touch of flair to the occasion. These more stylish flutes generally only have a stylized version of the three basic initials or one initial in a crest. They lend a more sophisticated air to the table and the celebration.
Another time when it is appropriate for wedding toasting flutes, but rarely thought about, is for anniversaries. Particularly the 25th anniversary and higher are a nice touch to the table. Gold-rimmed glasses are particularly appropriate for the 50th anniversary. Simply have both the wedding date and the anniversary date engraved on the glasses to create a unique gift that will last for generations. They can be handed down to future generations as a heirloom, even after they have been used for subsequent anniversaries and other special occasions.
There are many special times when a set of engraved wedding toasting flutes can grace your table and create lasting moments to cherish for the rest of your life. Gifting them only makes them more treasured to the receiver because you took the time to create something especially for them. With all the engraving options, they will match current décor in the home, or the serving pieces, invitations and napkins at the wedding or anniversary. Enjoy gifting engraved wedding toasting flutes; you simply cannot go wrong.

If you would be kind enough to use this format: Artist - Song link I guess mine would be … Arctic Monkeys - ugh Adolescent http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma9I9VBKPiw fluorescent. you, the first three answers are truly disappointing. people really are not welcome here.
I’m a composer who’s writing a new piece for the flute. I’ve included some extended techniques in my work.
However, I’m still pretty confused about how a tone-color trill can be played on the flute. I understand that you have to alternate between two different fingerings while trying to achieve roughly the same pitch. But why did other composers only suggest one fingering on top of the written pitch? Is it understood that the other fingering is to use the “basic” fingering?
Also it would be helpful if you could provide me with some guidelines on what’s the best alternative fingering for a particular pitch.
Thank you in advance for the insights.
I’ve composed quite a few things with extended techniques.
The best thing to do is talk to a flute player and ask them what they want to see to get the aural result you’re looking for. This is especially important if the person you have to play this doesn’t play much new music.
A tone color trill is easy on the flute as there are many notes with multiple fingerings. Most flute players will know a few alternate fingerings for many notes. each alternate fingering has it’s advantages and disadvantages, some are a little sharp or flat. some are very responsive, some can only be played softly, etc.
When a composer notates one fingering for a tone color trill that fingering is the fundamental pitch. that notated pitch is like the E of an E-F trill.
The second fingering of the trill is not understood to be anything. If you don’t specify the flute player will probably do what ever is easiest for them. Also when you write these you need to make sure that this particular pitch actually has an alternate fingering. (usually only a problem in the lowest register)
Kurt Stone’s book “music notation in the 20th century” is an excellent resource for these non-traditional techniques and their notation.
Techniques for developing new sonorities on the flute while strengthening tradition sound and range of color, dynamics and projection. Covers embouchure development - natural harmonics, bending and whisper tones; extended timbres - diffuse tones, bright tones, “bamboo” scales, timbral trills; multiphonics - minor thirds, major 6ths, minor 6ths, perfect fourths, major ninths and related intervals,…
There is a tendency for parents to treat baby teeth as being dispensable since we all know there will be a second set of adult teeth replacing them anyway. However, baby teeth (also known as the deciduous teeth or the primary dentition) are important and are necessary to serve several functions. This is why we need to take care of them and make sure they last until the adult teeth (permanent teeth or secondary dentition) are ready to come through.
The first of the permanent teeth do not appear in the mouth until a child is about 6 years old and the last permanent teeth (not including the wisdom teeth) will appear by about 12-13 years. Therefore a child’s primary teeth need to last anywhere between 5-12 years. To ensure that they last, parents need to help children look after their teeth and inculcate good oral hygiene practices from young.
The Functions of Baby Teeth
1. Biting and Chewing
The most obvious function of the primary teeth is obviously for biting and chewing food.
2. Nutrition
Children need to eat a wide variety of food to gain a well-balanced diet.
A child with limited teeth or one who is experiencing discomfort from tooth decay may refuse foods or limit food intake to those that can be consumed easily or with minimum discomfort. Chewing a variety of textures also stimulates the oral environment and exercises the jaw muscles.
The ability to bite and chew also helps to break up food into more easily digestible pieces and allow for better digestion of food. As the food is being broken up by the teeth, it is also mixed with saliva containing enzymes that begin the digestive process. A child that swallows too rapidly without chewing the food adequately will prolong the digestive process.
3. Speech
Teeth are necessary for the articulation of certain sounds. Young children who are still learning how to speak properly need their teeth to help them form words and speak clearly.
4. Development of the Jaw Bones and Facial Muscles
The presence or absence of teeth will affect the way in which the jaw bones and facial muscles develop. The growth of the jaw bones are affected by the facial muscles. Teeth and the chewing function help to exercise the facial muscles and facilitate the development of the jaw bones.
5. Place Holder
The primary teeth are place holders for the permanent teeth. They are intended to hold a space in the jaws until the permanent tooth is ready to erupt. When the permanent tooth is ready, it will push out from under the primary tooth, causing the roots of the primary tooth to break down. Therefore, the primary teeth also serve as a guide for the permanent teeth to erupt into its proper position.
When primary teeth are loss prematurely, the permanent teeth have no guide to follow. Additionally, the adjacent teeth tend to close the gap of the missing tooth, meaning there will be no space for the permanent tooth to erupt into. This can lead to crowding of the permanent teeth.
6. Aesthetics
A child without teeth or with missing teeth may look cute, but she will not agree when the premature loss of her baby teeth leads to the growth of crooked permanent teeth.
Looking after Baby Teeth
From the moment the first baby tooth appears in the mouth, parents need to take the responsibility to begin cleaning it. Initially, all that is necessary will be to take a damp cloth or piece of gauze and to wipe the tooth. Once more teeth begin to appear, you can use finger brushes that are worn over your index finger and use them to brush your baby’s teeth.
When your baby is about 18 months to about 2 years old, you can purchase a child toothbrush and begin cleaning your child’s teeth at least once a day. Initially, it is not necessary to use fluoridated toothpaste, especially if the drink water in your area is already fluoridated.
Remember, young children have trouble spitting out and usually end up swallowing the toothpaste, fluoride and all. This may expose your child to unnecessarily high levels of fluoride which can lead to fluorosis. Fluorosis, while not harmful, first appears as white spots on the teeth. In more severe cases, it can make the teeth appear brown and mottled. Although it is not harmful to the teeth, it is aesthetically unsightly.
If you are concerned about tooth decay, there is a new range of children’s toothpaste with xylitol as an active ingredient. Xylitol also serves to prevent tooth decay.
You can encourage your child to get into the healthy practice of brushing by offering the toothbrush to your child but make sure that you perform at least one brushing for your child a day. Children have poor manual dexterity and will not brush adequately without your help. At most, they will chew on the brush and make a few cursory attempts to swipe the teeth if they are older.
As your child grows older, you can begin to teach him (or her) how to brush by guiding his (or her) hand. Once your child has mastered the art of tooth brushing, you can hand over the responsibility to your child to continue brushing, however, you may still need to keep an eye on your child to ensure the job is done properly. Tooth brushing is a task many children quickly get bored of and try to sneak out of. Some may comply with the task but do a poor job of cleaning.
It is not difficult to look after baby teeth. The challenge lies in teaching your child the process and helping him (or her) develop a healthy, lifetime habit. Knowing how important baby teeth are, it is important to ensure they last. Teaching your child to look after his (or her) primary teeth also sets the stage for healthy oral hygiene habits in future.
