Avian Flu Is A Potential Pandemic

Will the avian flu cause a disaster similar to the Spanish flu of 1918 that killed more than fifty million people in the world?

Avian flu or avian influenza is spreading at an alarming rate and it is believed that if it continues its flight, it has the potential to cause another major pandemic around the world. This time, it is estimated that up to one hundred and fifty million people may die.

Avian flu is a disease caused by a specific type of avian or bird influenza virus. Scientists have discovered that there are fifteen types of avian flu viruses that affect the bird populace. The current outbreak of avian flu is caused by the H5N1 virus.

Although the avian flu virus is supposed to be typically affecting the birds, the nature of this flu virus is that it can mutate and transfer from one species to another. The avian flu virus that has been killing birds previously is now affecting human beings too. Those people who have been affected contacted the disease because they were unhygienic in handling infected poultry.

The H5N1 virus has been found to be highly contagious and it can be transmitted to human beings through the contact of excretal or nasal secretions from infected birds. In addition, if the avian flu mutates and joins with a human flu virus, it will be transmitted easily from one person to another. If not detected and treated early, it can become fatal. The deadly avian flu virus is highly infectious and if it spreads rapidly, it will cause rapid fatalities to the human species.

This virus was first discovered in Hong Kong in 1997. It was spread by infected migratory birds such as wild ducks, swallows and wild geese to domesticated fowls like chicken, ducks, geese, turkeys and eventually affecting human beings too. A number of countries have confirmed human deaths due to avian flu and the figures have been constantly on the rise. Apparently, the avian flu virus has infected several hundred people and killing at least one hundred and fifty of them. It has also spread to a number of other countries such as Cambodia, mainland China, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The lethal H5N1 virus has caused the death or culling of an estimated two hundred million birds over a widespread of countries such as Cambodia, China (including Hong Kong), Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Thailand, Malaysia, Mongolia, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Vietnam.

When infected with the pathogenic H5N1 virus, the birds may develop severe sicknesses such as respiratory diseases and they usually die within the same day. Other telltale symptoms are loss of appetite, diarrhea, nervousness and depression as well as a reduction in egg production and ruffled feathers.

As prevention is the best cure, the precautionary measures initiated by the various affected countries helps in curbing aggravation.

At poultry farms, once a bird is infected, it must be culled immediately and the others properly vaccinated. While the owners are to routinely send randomly selected birds to the nearest avian lab for thorough check-ups, all of their workers must be properly covered when handling the fowls so as to avoid any direct contacts with infected birds.

It is believed that the avian flu virus cannot survive in temperatures above 100C. As such, all poultry products must be cooked thoroughly and properly. In addition, it is important to wash one’s hands with soap and hot water before food preparation and meals or after coming in contact with raw poultry products.

Although two drugs, Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir) are found to be effective against the deadly avian flu virus if taken within forty-eight of occurrence of first symptoms, no preventive drugs has yet been discovered against the H5N1 virus.

Avian flu infection in human beings portrays common flu symptoms such as cough, fever, headache, sore throat and muscle aches or pains. These may then progress to life threatening complications such as severe chest pains, breathing difficulties, respiratory failure and viral pneumonia. However, at times, the only symptom that an affected person has is an eye infection such as conjunctivitis, which can be mistaken to be ordinary sore eyes. As such, there may be misconceptions on whether the person has ordinary flu or the life-threatening avian flu.

The avian flu is certainly a potential pandemic threat to humanity and has to be addressed globally. As prevention has always been the best cure, the temporary solution is to maintain a healthy and hygienic lifestyle all the time.

Bird Flu Vaccine Baxter

Swine Flu vaccine might kill us?

Is anyone else concerned that Baxter pharmaceuticals has been designated to design a Swine flu vaccine when just weeks ago they shipped out vaccines that were tainted with live Avian flu? Just think what would have happened if the tainted vaccines were not caught ahead of time.

Are they actually trying to kill people? It seems like the first scandal may have been a way to cause a widespread pandemic so that they could in turn make money from the disbursement of a vaccine?

What do you guys think? I don’t trust Baxter.

I think the use of the vaccine might turn into a whole new epidemic……were screwed either way

Swine Flu Symptoms In Toddlers

December 14th, 2009

Toddlers and the swine flu?

I live in Montana. I am in high school and a friend of mine just got back from Texas and she now has the swine flu. I am a teen mom. I am really scared that my daughter will get it through me and she is only 16 months old. So my question is is the swine flu as dangerous as the news makes it out to be? Is anyone else in ”panic” mode because of this flu? or am I the only one? What are the earliest symptoms I would notice if she gets it?

If you haven’t been in contact with the friend, great. If you have been, don’t be in contact with him/her for the near future.

Based on what people are saying, there’s no real need to panic. Still, if a baby/toddler gets any flu it can always be dangerous. Based on recent news it appears to be a milder form of illness than was thought. Still, babies are always at higher risk if they get a respiratory infection.

The most recent word is that schools are not closing, but people are telling anyone with flu symptoms not to go to school.

Any symptoms of being sick (fever, cold symptoms) should be checked out by a doctor.

Now, more than ever, it’s a good idea to wash hands thoroughly and frequently, and to thoroughly clean surfaces. If you aren’t infected, and if she isn’t near the friend, she won’t get it (unless it were to show up somewhere like the infant seat in a shopping cart - which may be reason not to put her in one of those in the near future),

Listen to your area news, and if you have questions ask your baby’s pediatrician (even if your baby is not sick and you just want to know more about what you should be doing).

Trout,

I think we should worry about false flag later and assume it is a real threat. I am far less concerned about being made a fool of than I am about my children being dead. Many of the people in my neighborhood and that attend my youngest son’s school travel frequently between here and Mexico. I will be keeping a close eye.

I would be very interested to know who the woman was on the other end of that phone call. Who was she talking to btw? I didn’t see that info posted.

Benefits of Botox Cosmetic Injections

A Safer and More Affordable Alternative to Surgery

BOTOX cosmetic injections are an FDA approved treatment for the removal or reduction of wrinkles and frown lines. These injections contain a purified version of the muscle toxin obtained from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. This purified form, when injected in little amounts straight into the line or wrinkle-causing muscle, causes the skin creases to smooth out. BOTOX may be a short term treatment (results last for just a few months) but it’s safer and more affordable than surgery.

Treats Not Just Wrinkles

As mentioned earlier, the FDA has approved the use of BOTOX treatment only for correcting lines. However, BOTOX injections can also be used to decrease excessive hand, forehead or armpit sweating; for respite from muscle twitches; to treat frequent urination and infections of the urinary tract in men; for alleviation of chronic jaw and back pain; and for relieving migraine headaches. Studies suggest that BOTOX cosmetic injections may also help patients with arthritis.

So Many Benefits

Here’s an overview of the other benefits of BOTOX cosmetic injections:

•    Great for reducing laugh lines and crow’s feet.
•    Causes very little discomfort as the needle used is tiny.
•    Takes very little time to perform (usually 10 minutes).
•    Causes no loss of sensation in the treated region.
•    Improves the advantages of collagen, Perlane, and Restylane.
•    Nil recovery time.
•    Lends a more youthful look.

A Worthwhile Option

BOTOX cosmetic injections have their own share of side effects such as headache, nausea, swelling, symptoms similar to those of a flu; redness on the treated region; and rarely breathing or swallowing problems or serious allergic reactions. However, this treatment doesn’t pose the risks of plastic surgery, making it a good option for improving wrinkles.

Mandatory Flu Vaccine

November 27th, 2009

mandatory flu vaccine

Virus H1N1 vaccine scheduled for October

The H1N1 virus, better known as swine flu, is expected to be a major threat this winter. We hear about this virus in the news and are aware of their existence, but most of us are not aware of their history or efficacy of vaccines that have been created to address this strain of flu. I chose to research information on the H1N1 virus to make a more educated decision on whether or not there should be vaccinated my daughter.

The presence of this virus was brought to our attention in the spring of 2009, when the Mexican government began to close most of the facilities public in Mexico City due to an outbreak. Obviously, because there was a case of swine flu spread there before we noticed. Spread United States and many other countries before June 2009. The swine flu dates back to 1918 when it was commonly referred to as the Spanish flu, although its origin was never detected. Five hundred million people were affected worldwide and 50 to 100 million people died as a result. The virus attacks people whose immune systems healthy and popular idea that children and the elderly would be the hardest hit was not the case. A healthy immune system would be self-defeating to try to the virus and, meanwhile, would overreact and actually have the opposite effect in the body.

A strain of H1N1 was responsible for a smaller outbreak in 1976, a Fort Dix soldier died shortly after complaining of not feeling well. This strain was controlled, but a new one was born just after extended very quickly. The vaccine was created to prevent a recurrence of the epidemic that took many lives in 1918. Vaccination helped the spread of the virus, but ended taking more lives than the virus itself. Many died as a result of adverse reactions to the vaccine and 532 people were diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome as a direct result of drinking. This is an autoimmune disorder that results in nerve damage among many other debilitating health problems. Many people who need Guillain-Barré syndrome to undergo any form of dialysis that removes antibodies from the blood and the blood is replenished back to the body. It is possible to survive this condition health, but generally there is a long road to recovery may take several years.

There was a limited case of swine flu labeled Zoonoses was detected in 1988 when a pregnant woman in Wisconsin died after being in contact with infected pigs at a fair. There were some others who were in contact with it they were infected with a mild form of the virus. Most pigs were infected throughout the U.S. in 1998, and it was considered that the pigs had a common flu was transformed into a new strain, due to a combination of their own flu were merged with those of humans and birds. Most pigs were infected in the Philippines in 2007 as well. The H1N1 virus is a combination of spinning flu in four different ways, including two parts of human influenza, bird flu and swine flu hand side.

The 2009 H1N1 virus symptoms that are similar to the flu in his diary. Among others, sudden fever and cough, along with any of the other symptoms of the common cold, such as chills and body aches. Most people who catch the virus can treat it as you normally would with bed rest and fluids. People have a weakened immune system may experience complications such as pneumonia and respiratory failure. Those who are considered at greatest risk are persons under 5 years and 65 years of age. People who have recently undergone treatment for asthma by taking prescription drugs are also at risk. H1N1 can have an incubation period of up to seven days, although this has not been confirmed. You can buy the same way as the common cold through something as simple as a sneeze. One out of every 1,000 people died of swine flu that is comparable to the number of people who have died from flu. The best way to prevent disease is by routine washing and covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when sneezing or coughing and quickly have it.

How do we know if we have a common cold or flu swine? In most cases other doctors and patients usually do not try to differentiate the virus they have. They carried out a test if symptoms are severe with administration of a blood test or rubbing the back of the nose and throat. H1N1 is usually treated with Tamiflu or Relenza, when diagnosed. These are antiviral medications used to treat the symptoms until the virus runs its course. The fact that most people are not testing H1N1 virus is of concern.

The number of people who actually carry the virus must be known if all people infected with flu symptoms has not been tested. Although most people with this virus have a mild form of it, I think that the world Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would like to know how many cases out there if infected people have severe symptoms or not. If this virus is more widespread than we think, perhaps it is possible that a further strain great for developing that we are not prepared. I wonder why this year recommended to be vaccinated to prevent this disease if there is not enough concern for doctors to test, even for him. The mortality rate is the same for the H1N1 virus as it is for the common cold and most of us have worked very well without a vaccine for that.

The H1N1 vaccine is not a cure for the virus as it is simply a preventive measure. Flu shots are on average 70-80% efficiency as information provided by Fox News. Keep in mind that if you administer this vaccine is injected with a form of virus that was grown in chicken eggs in a laboratory. The evidence for the safety of the product is only started earlier this month and is now considered safe. Now he is being "tested" in pregnant women and children. Are these pregnant women and parents of these children who are being "tested" ready to participate? It is possible for a person to develop immunity about 5 weeks after the vaccination process is complete, allowing you to be victims of the virus in the meantime.

This is because the fact that each person will need at least two rounds of the vaccine to be effective. It is said that there is only one part of the vaccine available in October, then more vaccines will be released each month thereafter. Is this a way to test the vaccine that was recently reconstructed from the same type of vaccine that was administered in 1976? This is not what worries me. They will also be throwing in additives that have never been tried for the second batch of vaccines. How long do they test in this batch, if not even been created yet?

Do I want to vaccinate my daughter? I think not, and I hope it does not become mandatory. I weighed the pros and cons to get their vaccine. Should I take extra precautions so that my daughter did not contract the virus that is virtually identical to the common flu? Keep safe from the flu does not seem as important as prevention of problems that can occur from taking the vaccine. The vaccine given in 1976, and cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome that resulted from it is worrying. I prefer that my child has a mild form of influenza that those who die because their immune system that attacks the nervous system in the future. The Neuroscientists have already been warned to keep eyes open for new cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome, when vaccination is released. It seems that the risks outweigh the benefits with this vaccine, but not easy for pharmaceutical companies to lower the chance of making a killing income.

Cdc Recommendations Flu Vaccine

Flu Vaccine Answers - 10 Answers to Frequently Asked Questions About the Flu Shot

The 2009 Flu Season has arrived with a lot of questions about how best to deal with the H1N1 or Swine Flu Virus. Here are accurate and up to the minute answers to 10 questions that will help you make the best decisions for you and your family.

1. Does the Shot cover the H1N1 Virus? No it does not. There is a vaccine for the swine flu in production as this is being written, but it is not available to the general public as yet. Initially, the swine flu vaccines will go to military personnel, emergency medical personnel as well as health departments, and health care officials. Most pharmacies are estimating that the earliest it would become available to the general public is November of 2009.

2. Should you take the swine flu vaccine if you have already taken the regular flu shot or mist? Yes both vaccines are recommended. You can choose to take them both on the same day at the same time. Or you need to wait several weeks if you have to take them separately.

3. Does a physician’s office have to give the shot to small children? No, there are pharmacies within drug stores who will vaccinate children as young as 2 years of age. Expect guideline for local pharmacies to differ, so call before you go to make sure that can do what you need.

4. Is the flu shot better than the flu mist? Yes, health care professionals agree that both are good for the duration of one flu season. Given that the worse months for flu are December, January and February both should provide protection through those months.

However, if the flu season extends later than usual into March and April, it is thought that those who have received the Flu Mist will have greater coverage. In other words the flu shot tends to show a diminished capacity after 4 months, and the flu mist tends to last 5 to 6 months.

5. What is the difference between the shot and the mist? The injection does contain viruses but they are dead. The mist is given by spraying the vaccine up each nostril, and contains live but weakened viruses.

6. Who should avoid the mist? People older than 50, those who have asthma or who use an inhaler for wheezing are not good candidates for the mist.

7. How long does it take for the vaccine to become effective? It takes several weeks for the body to react by making antibodies which then help protect it from getting the flu at all or at least lessen the seriousness of the case.

8. Will I get a case of the flu after being vaccinated? The answer is no for the both injection and the mist. Even though the mist contains live viruses, they are not potent enough to cause a case of the flu.

9. When is the best time to be vaccinated? As soon as the vaccine is available is the best time to receive it. Because it takes several weeks for the vaccine to offer protection, the sooner you receive the shot the sooner you’re covered. Getting it early means you avoid having supplies run low and having to wait until more is available.

10. Where can I get the most up to date information on the flu? Your physician and local media are good resources. Also, The Center for Disease Control (CDC) provides up to the minute information with a website and an 800 number.
