Im going to go on a cruise in 2 weeks to the Western Caribbean (Mexico). I know the H1N1 chaos has calmed down a lot and the swine flu percentage has dropped. But it started in Mexico and I know its still lingering around a bit.
I’m not one of those crazy health freaks and I know the it’s not necessary, but I was wondering if it would be a good idea to vaccinate my family and myself with the H1N1 vaccine before we go, just in case?
Considering two of my kid have asthma- one with severe asthma- I don’t want to risk them getting seriously ill.
So here’s the question.
should I vaccinate the family? (everyone or just those with asthma?) or is it not that much of a big deal to get vaccinated?
Thanks in advance!
I just returned from a Western Caribbean cruise. We stopped in Cozumel, Belize, Roatan and Grand Cayman and I can honestly tell you, H1N1 was not a problem at all. I am assuming that you are going to some ports and perhaps going on an excursion at the various ports, but I wouldn’t worry about it. The ship we were on had hand sanitizer placed throughout the ship. Just using normal common sense precautions should make your trip swine flu free! Just make sure you have your family’s medications. As far as being in Mexico, I would imagine that if you were traveling to the border towns and such you would need to take extra precautions, but as far as cruise ports go, I wouldn’t worry about it. I am a higher risk person because of being a Type 1 diabetic, but I haven’t hadf a shot and I had no trouble or worries. ENJOY YOURSELF!!!!!

Have you ever felt like the flu pregnancy stomach or feel completely different? Pregnancy is one of the things that might make me sick, I suppose? I do not think I am, but is a possibility. I have all kinds of nausea, headaches, abdominal cramps, etc.
The nausea I had during pregnancy was exactly the same - but it depends on what other symptoms you have. Wondering if you are pregnant? Complementary: Headaches may be symptoms from the outset can get cramps (as lack of menstruation). I have not had nausea until a few weeks along - and cramping was not bad. But everyone is different. I would expect until you are late and take a test - Good luck

Proper lighting is essential when playing or practicing the piano. Piano Lamps are specially designed to allow for flexibility in directing the light exactly where you need it, on the music and the piano keys. The piano lamps by House of Troy are engineered with musicians in mind. They are solidly built, offer flexibility in directing light, come in many models, styles, and designs, and many are lightweight and portable, allowing musicians to transport them to performances and rehearsals.
Grand piano lamps come in different variations, offering musicians a choice as to where to place the lamp on the piano. The most popular style is the grand piano clamp lamp or clip-on style lamp. This type of lamp clamps onto the sheet-music holder (music desk) with small thumbscrews to hold it in place. The inside of the clamp is lined with felt to protect the piano from being scratched. The on/off switch is conveniently located either in the cord (6″ from the clamp) or on the shade itself for easy access.
The width of sheet music and music books usually ranges from 12″ - 18″. The shade sizes of grand clamp lamps range from 10″ to 22″ allowing them to provide a wide enough dispersion of light to cover the entire width of an open music book. The shades of these lamps swivel to help fine- tune the light directly onto the music and keys. The flexible shades also cut out glare associated with light by keeping the light from shining directly into your eyes.
One of the advantages of the clip-on style grand piano lamp is that the light is directly on top of the music, shining straight down upon it, illuminating the music and the keys. Another advantage is that the lamp is not resting on the piano taking up room, which allows you to put other things on the piano such as metronomes, music books, and other items. And still another advantage is that these lamps are lightweight and portable, so they can be transported to rehearsals and performances. They also work on music stands, and in any other area that they could be clamped onto.
These clamp style lamps are available with different types of lighting technology giving musicians even more choices. Some use incandescent lighting, while others use fluorescent bulbs, and still others use LED lighting technology. They all provide plenty of light to clearly read your sheet music or music book, and they reduce eye-strain associated with improper focused lighting. Led grand piano lamps have become very popular lately because of their energy efficiency and long lasting bulb life.
House of Troy makes these lamps in a number of beautiful designs including wide shade styles, thin-line models, low profile lamps, and even a battery operated model. They are available in various finishes including: Polished Brass, Black, Mahogany Bronze, Satin Nickel, and in various combinations of these finishes. These attractive piano lamps will not only light up your piano by providing the proper focused light, but they will also make your piano look classy and stylish, and help to connect it to the decor of the room.

Are there any parents that are still going to give their kids?
cold medicine? My son was born almost 3 months early and he has been given these cold medicines since his first cold. The main problem is parents that don’t or don’t know how to read the dosages. My husband has been out of work since June so we have no health insurance so I can’t afford to pay $80 for a doctor’s visit for the common cold for our son.
On the ABC news website I left a comment that maybe they need to keep these meds behind the counter and give parents a reading test first so they can read what the dosage is.
If they are selling it, I will be buying it. I can’t imagine not having Tylenol for my child when he wakes up in the middle of the night with a fever. I don’t think I am one of those parents who over medicates. I am always very careful not to give meds that not needed for example I don’t give Tylenol cough and cold for just a fever and I check to measurements multiple times before giving it.

Homeopathics, a Time-Tested, Proven Method to Cure the H1N1 Swine Flu Virus
If you want a time-tested, proven method to cure the H1N1 swine flu virus, try homeopathics. In the 1918 flu epidemic, homeopathics were the go to drugs for the successful treatment of this virus. Several doctors from this era reported the success of homeopathics. Homeopathics works like an immunization. It gives the body a small dose of what your immune system needs to fight to help you get over the illness.
Homeopathics is a proven method that has been tested by time to cure H1N1 swine flu virus. There were two types that the doctors used during the 1918 flu epidemic: 1) Gelsemium and 2) Bryonia. One doctor in Ohio in the used only the Gelsemium strain in 1800 cases with only one death. He didn’t use anything else, not even aspirin.
Modern medicines are becoming ineffective at fighting viruses. However, homeopathics works with your immune system to help you fight bacteria, naturally. They attack viruses and relieve you of aches, fevers and pain. Gelsemium relieves body aches and headaches while Bryonia addresses irritability and body aches. That’s why it is good to find a natural product with both of these strains in it.
Homeopathics have been around for years. Discovered by a German Scientist in 1796, they have been used successfully to fight flu viruses. The best Bryonia strain should have Alba in it. You can find combinations of Gelsemium and Bryonia Alba online. However, be sure they are all natural. Another good thing about homeopathics is they are approved, inspected and tested by FDA in the U.S. Therefore, you can take them with assurance.
While you are taking homeopathics, continue to take your elderberry extract and probiotics. These products help build your immune system as you naturally become healed of the virus that has attacked your body.
Homeopathics are safe taken without assistance from physicians providing: 1) reliable company products are used and 2) as long as you are able to choose which homeopathic is for you. They are even safe for infants to use! Since they are naturally derived, you can use them with other medications, too.
During the 1918 flu epidemic caused by the type A flu virus, homeopathics were used successfully to establish a mortality rate of less than one (1) percent. Modern medicine didn’t fair so well with a mortality rate of 6 to 22%. Therefore, they are time-tested, proven viruses fighters. They worked extremely well then, and you can be confident they will work well today.
Homeopathics is a proven, time-tested method to cure the H1N1 swine flu virus. The success rate of these strains has been amazing over the years. They worked extremely well in 1918 to help people overcome the flu virus. Because they worked so well then, you can rely on them to work for you today. As always, eat healthy my friends.

History. In the winter of 1918, the coldest the American Midwest had ever endured, history’s most lethal influenza virus was born. Over the next year it flourished, killing as many as 100 million people. It killed more people in twenty-four weeks than AIDS has killed in twenty-four years, more people in a year than the Black Death of the Middle Ages killed in a century….
The flu pandemic that began in 1918 touched with illness virtually every family in America. It was a devastating time, far overshadowing the carnage of World War I as the pandemic killed more people in less time than any disease before or since. With 25% to 30% of the worlds population having clinically apparent illnesses and a mortality rate of 2.5% - 5%, it is believed that more than 675,000 Ame…
When we think of plagues, we think of AIDS, Ebola, anthrax spores, and, of course, the Black Death. But in 1918 the Great Flu Epidemic killed an estimated 40 million people virtually overnight. If such a plague returned today, taking a comparable percentage of the U.S. population with it, 1.5 million Americans would die. In Flu, Gina Kolata, an acclaimed reporter for The New York Times, unravels …
It’s cold/flu season again! Why do doctors never prescribe antibiotics until it’s almost too late?
My family has cold-induced asthma. Everytime one of us gets the flu we wind up needing to take antibiotics. First it starts with runny nose and fever, followed by coughing for weeks. Eventually the cough settles into the chest leading to infection almost always requiring antibiotics. My question is if they know the end result, how come doctors don’t prescribe antibiotics sooner and instead wait until it’s almost too late (i.e., high grade fever, etc.)? And are we unique in requiring antibiotics to cure our complications due to colds/fevers? Does anyone else have the same problem?
Because flu and cold are actually VIRAL in nature — they are self limiting, so it is seldom for doctors to prescribe antivirals unless it is really necessary. Antibiotics are ineffective against viruses. Antibiotics are prescribed to combat secondary BACTERIAL infection that follows flu/cold. Antibacterials/antibiotics will only be prescribed if you have an infection that is BACTERIAL in nature.
Antibiotics, when frequently taken for simple cold is ineffective, it will just make the bacteria “RESISTANT” to these antibiotics. Next time you get a bacterial infection, the doctor will need to give you STRONGER antibiotics compared to the previous ones you took. Doctors don’t want these bacteria to be multi-drug resistant- it’s an arising problem. As much as possible, the strongest antibiotics are being reserved against the most notorious bacterial strains. Aside from that, frequent intake of antibiotics will compromise you to get superinfections (growth of other organisms, like fungi). Antibiotics kill the bacteria (both the good & the bad ones), so there are other opportunistic organisms like Fungi that would cause the infection.
The CONSEQUENCE of habitually treating cold/flu with ANTIBIOTICS…
I saw a case in a hospital - it was a case study presented, the woman showing signs and symptoms of lung infection acquired Candida Albicans Pneumonia - fungal pneumonia, which is rare.
And it was too late, coz that diagnosis was found out when her body was examined by a pathologist on the autopsy table, her lungs were covered with this whitish spider web like matter- Fungi.
She had a history of prolonged “self medication” with inconsistent doses of antibiotics every time she had cold or flu. When she was in the hospital, the doctors initially thought that she was having a multi-drug resistant bacterial pneumonia. All of the antibiotics given to her were very potent and eliminated the bacteria in her body. With the bacteria gone– it was a very favorable chance for the opportunistic FUNGI to grow and multiply. The Fungal population did NOT have a competitor for nutrients and space –as the bacteria were dead. FUNGI cannot be killed by antibacterial drugs, it needs to be killed by antifungal/s. It was too late for her. She died.
Potent systemic antifungals are stressing for the human liver and kidneys…as the liver metabolizes drugs, and the kidneys filter and excrete it.
Antibiotics and antifungals when taken in excess damage the liver and kidneys.
The best thing you can do is to strengthen your immune system — do your best : NOT to acquire cold and flu. There is a vaccine against flu. Take multivitamins, avoid stress, eat a healthy diet, eat citrus fruits = good source of vitamin C, exercise regularly (atleast 30 minutes 3X a week), get adequate amount of restful sleep - 8 hours/day, practice frequent handwashing and avoid crowded places. With these preventive actions you can guard yourself against cold and flu, hence it could prevent asthmatic attacks indirectly.
And keep your anti-asthma inhaler loaded and handy…Bring it with you always.

Notoriously, and entirely appropriately, the original outline for Doug Naylor and Rob Grant’s comedy sci-fi series Red Dwarf was sketched on the back of a beer mat. When it finally appeared on British television in 1988, the show had clearly stayed true to its roots, mixing jokes about excessive curry consumption with affectionate parodies of classic sci-fi. Indeed, one of the show’s most endearin…

OK… my 8 month old has been through hell and back in the last 2 months. She has had pneumonia (sp?), an ear infection, the stomach flu, rosiola, and the entire time she has had diarhea with it all!! The doctors and nurses are just giving us the run around basically the last 2 months. Shes been on isomil df for the last 5 days to control it and now I am waiting on a call back from her doc to schedule stool samples because the df only works when she is using it not when she switches back to her reg formula (df is something you DO NOT stay on long term it is specifically for treatment of diarhea). I am just so lost now and feel so sorry for my baby. She has a horrible diaper rash from this which we are treating with verious creams from the doc and I just don’t know what to do… what would you do in my sit. does anyone know of any home remedies to rid diarhea?
Try some pedialyte. An imballance in electrolytes can be caused by diarhhea and will also cause diarhhea to continue.
For her poor tushy Ihave a bit of advise that may help.
First of go get some aquifor. It’s a purified petroleum jelly made by eucerin. After every dirty diaper clean her up and rinse her tush with cool water and allow air time. The air time is very important to promote healing. Then slather on the aquifor. That will help prevent the diarhhea from breaking her skin down as fast. Also it’s hypoallergenic with few ingredients whivh means fewer things to irritate her skin worse.
Is she still on medications? Those can easily be the reason behind the diarhea. Another thing you might ask the pharmacist on a dosage for childrens kaopectate (sp?) It’s an OTC for diarhhea. I don’t normally recommend giving meds for every little symptom but this sounds pretty serious. If you’re not comfortable with that confront her doctor for something to get her through this or I would seriously consider a new doctor. He obviously doesn’t listen and you need to know you can trust your doctor to listen and respond appropriately to all of your concerns no matter how trivial it may seem to him. He’s not the one living with a miserable baby!
Is there any difference between the symptoms of swine flu and the symptoms of regular flu?
I was just diagnosed by my doctor today to have the regular flu virus after going through a big swine flu scare. I have researched swine flu a lot and have every symptom associated with it. Is the only difference in terms of actual illness how much more contageous swine flu is? Is swine flu actually worse to get than the regular flu or is it just overhyped? I read a newspaper artical today that said swine flu isnt actually as life threataning as the regular flu (not that I’m dying).
It’s overhyped. The only way they can tell the difference is by doing a blood test and sending it off to a lab. Everything is pretty much the same, only it came from a different source. (Pigs, obviously.) Unless you have some underlying health condition, like HIV or something, that might make your immune system compromised–you have nothing to worry about.

U.S. Estimates 90,000 to Die From H1N1 - Learn How Swine Flu Prevention Can Save You and Your Loved Ones
The U.S. CDC has just claimed that almost 2,000,000 north Americans may be hospitalized in this winter’s H1N1 influenza pandemic. Of this number, they guesstimate that almost 300,000 of those hospitalised could wind up in thorough care units. In addition, they expect that between 20 percent and 40 percent of the populace may be stricken with the H1N1 virus. And in the U.S. alone, they are estimating that the death rate from H1N1 could be as high as 90,000. This figure is three times the ordinary influenza mortality rate. And disturbingly, the H1N1 influenza virus is murdering primarily teens and middle-aged adults.
But why is the govt so concerned when, up until now, the H1N1 pathogen has been relatively mild? Do they know something that we don’t? The influenza epidemic of 1918 ( that snuffed out 50 million individuals ), and the swine influenza have many likenesses. Both began with a just mutated pathogen strain. Both started out relatively mild. And both killed more teenagers and middle aged individuals than normal seasonal flu. For these reasons and others, we could see a repeat of the 1918 flu. This is why presidencies around the world are worried.
For those reasons, swine flu prevention is highly crucial. It could save your life or that of a family member. If you are concerned about protecting your loved ones, take the steps necessary for swine flu prevention. Learn what you have to do to protect yourself and your loved ones from the swine flu. Once a pandemic occurs, hospitals may be filled and it could be too late.
