My elderly rat is bleeding and wheezing?
My rat, Peaches, is very old; about 2 1/2 years. She went blind 6 months ago and just recently started loosing her hearing too (or so I guessed, since she doesn’t respond to noise or sight anymore, only vibrations and smell). Well a few weeks ago, she started making really odd noises and sleeping all the time. I figured she was sleeping so much because of her age and the noises were from her going deaf. But then last week she started wheezing and coughing and then I found dried blood on the cage and on her paws and around her nose. I can’t find any wounds on her and I don’t ever see her coughing blood or having a bloody nose, but she sounds like there’s fluid in her lungs from the sound of her wheezing.
I guess my question is, should I just get her put down? She seems to be suffering so much… or is this just a cold of some kind that will pass soon?
Also, what do you think is wrong with her?
sound like a bad respiratory infection, that’s why you should give them bio degradable bedding instead of the pine or cedar, it emits alot of dust which tends to cause that. and shes old which explains here hearing and sight loss, just get her to the vet as soon as possible, and if theres nothing wrong and shes just old, the vet will probably suggest having her put down, and its gonna be your decision to make. and honestly as sad and heartbreaking as it is, it’ll probably be the best thing for her, she’ll only come to suffer more if the vet cant cure her.

It is that time of the year again, when influenza strikes thousands of people. The term “Flu”, a contagious respiratory illness, is caused by influenza viruses. It spreads from person-to-person and can cause mild to severe illness, and in some cases it can lead to death. Deaths generally result from complications such as pneumonia, ear or sinus infections and the worsening of existing chronic medical conditions.
Presently there are two strains of flu, seasonal flu and the H1N1 (Swine) flu, that are circulating here in the USA. The seasonal flu usually starts during the fall and continues through early spring. This is the flu that we are all familiar with, however the H1N1 is a new strain that we have not seen before.
The symptoms of H1N1 flu are similar to seasonal flu, but are more severe and may include additional symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea.
Who is at Risk?
Everyone is at risk of contracting the flu virus, both the seasonal and the N1H1 virus. Most healthy people recover from the flu without problems, but certain people are at a high risk than others for serious complications.
Those at higher risk and therefore need to be more cautious include:
• Pregnant women
• People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age.
• Emergency medical personnel and Health care workers
• Those 65 and older.
• Anyone between 6 months and 24 years old.
• People 25 through 64 who have a chronic health disorder or reduced immune systems.
How does the Flu spread from person to person?
The H1N1 virus is spread from person-to-person in the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread; by contact with respiratory droplets from an infected person.
• This can occur by direct bodily contact or touching something with virus on it (shaking hands with a person who has the flu) and then touching your mouth, nose or eyes.
• Respiratory droplets are generated by a person coughing or sneezing near you coming into contact with your mouth, nose or eyes, as in an elevator or other enclosed area.
How do I protect myself?
First of all everyone should get vaccinated against both the Seasonal and H1N1. The Flu shot is the easy, effective and inexpensive way to protect yourself and your family from catching the flu virus. Recommended personal protective measures include:
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue away immediately in the trash after you use it.
• Wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water, especially after you cough or sneeze or have been in public places. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also effective.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
• Have and use a personal flu kit when there is a risk of exposure to respiratory droplets from an infected person and when travelling.
• If you are sick, avoid public interaction as much as possible until 24 hours after signs and symptoms have ended without fever-reducing medications.

Can I improve my Immune System?

Is there an end in sight?
While it is difficult to predict how the H1N1 flu will pan out, it now appears that the virus is coming in waves. Keep in mind, seasonal flu typically arrives in November and peaks in January-February. Therefore, it is still going to be important to take precautions into the spring.
Remember, the H1N1 vaccination remains the best way of protecting yourself against this influenza virus.

Do NOT by this, cheaply made internals, after two years of use developed a LOUD squeaking/grinding noise. Can be heard through out entire house, so can’t use when anyone else is around. Loud music on headphones will not cover up the noise. Took it apart and the end caps on the axle were not pressed on properly, causing axle to grind against bearings, completely unfixable. The unit was used less than 150 times before it failed (4 times a week). WASTE OF MY MONEY.

Stay Away from this product - Do Not even Consider…
I had a pro form almost two years ago (earlier model), I paid 1/2 what I paid for the 850. It lasted about a year and a half. I used it about 1/2 hr a day 5 days a week, when it broke I decided to spend a bit more and get the 850, after reading the reviews I was a bit hesitant: things like slightly wobbly, and loud raised flags, but I thought, “it’s probably not that bad” BIG MISTAKE, ITS WORSE!!! The thing is absolutely a piece of junk. not worth $49.99, much less the approximate $499.99 I paid for it.
Wobbly is an understatement. The thing feels like it going to break… handlebars shake, the whole frame sways (and yes I tried removing third leg, advice from previous reviewer, not much of a difference).
Loud, another understatement. It just sounds absolutely horrendous… it clanks and groans, the handle bars slap the center of the frame and make a really annoying noise as do the pedals when in use.
I’ve never felt so cheated, the thing is just not worth it.
However… it you don’t plan on actually using it, it does look nice(lol).

Elliptical Trained me
This would of got 5 stars but, I had to fiqure out myself to take off the center foot to prevent excessive wobbling. Poor design on the feet but works great if the center foot is taken off. Also had a couple of bolt holes that wasn’t tapped out properly, had to force in with channel locks and call customer service to get replacement bolts(cause they stripped out where the allen wrench goes in).

I purchased this elliptical to help me keep to my exercise goals in the coming cold weather. I was used to using a good machine at my office gym and was looking for something comparable but could not afford to spend a lot of money. So far the machine has been good and putting it together was not a problem as noted in some of the reviews. My only complaint is that it rocks a little while I am using it. This does not interfere in my workout and aside from that the quality is good for the money.

Some assembly required - well worth the effort!
This unit is excellent for the money. The construction is rugged enough for someone like myself who said “supersize me” a few times too often. It doesn’t wobble under load, and offers very quiet and smooth operation. The space-saver feature is a real plus for me - I have a tiny house, and it easily folds into a small footprint - width 26″ x 40″ folded, and 66″ unfolded. The front rollers make it possible for one person to move. The instrument panel works well - basic, functional resistance controls and a few decent training programs (I get rather amused by the marketing features that makes some of these machines boast about having a zillion programs, which are often fluff, or unusable). do you think my daughter has the stomach flu?
she has a 99.6 fever which i know isn’t that bad. she has a terrible stomach ache, she had diarrhea yesterday, headache, dizzy, weak, tired when she’s slept over 13 hours today and whenever she stands up she has blackouts. she’s never had anything like this before so i’m not really sure what it is. shes been around our neighbor who had it but this was about 4 days before he got sick. please help!!!
she also just told me that her legs are achy and has a tickling feeling in them.
Umm, to the best of my belief this is not a stomach flu. Possibly something similar to it but I don’t think it is the flu. As a matter of fact, I think I just passed this ailment onto my brother because I had something very similar to this happening to me. Very few of the things you mentioned were things that didn’t happen to me. I was experincing dizzyness, blackouts, fatigue, weakness, diarrhea. Although I don’t think I was that tired but I remember one day I just passed out and didn’t walk up for hours. I am pretty sure that it is not the flu but maybe a not so mild cold. Perhaps a more severe cold. I am recovering from it just now after a whole week (7 days.) I was also getting lots of aches and pains. Ear aches, eye aches, soar throats, lack of hearing in one ear, ankle pain, and so much more. And it takes a while for the germs to get from one person to another as much as 5 days so it is possible that your neighbor passed it onto your daughter. If it continues for more than a couple weeks, I would schedule appointment with her pedatricain. Make sure she drinks lots of water and slightly limit her food intake, especially if she is naucious. Hope she feels better.

Should people avoid visiting New York with kids this summer 2009 due to the swine flu?
Having heard the NJ, NY schools have warned that the second wave of the H1N1 has arrived and may have the third wave, should people avoid visiting New York with kids right now?
Medical experts and NONE New Yorkers opinions are probably more advisable. Please provide your comments.
Not unless you’re also going to keep them inside the house all summer with no visitors allowed!! It’s just the flu - people with compromised immune systems or other risk factors die from the flu every year, not just from the “swine” flu. Your kids are exposed to germs everyday - at the mall, at school, with their friends, etc, etc.
