During the short span of the Industrial Age, we have polluted our rivers and oceans by our indiscriminate use of pesticides and fertilizers. We have manufactured massive dead zones where rivers run to our seas. We have destroyed our rain forests and old growth forests. Fish now come with mercury warnings from 49 of our 50 states and on any predatory fish taken from our oceans. Our throw away society has developed a floating plastic island the size of Texas that is breaking down chemically and is adversely affecting every living thing around it, further degrading our food supply. Instances of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and asthma have all increased dramatically and continue to rise at alarming rates.

Your Doctor tells you that you are in the advanced stages of diabetes or heart disease. You have lung cancer or breast cancer. Do you cut out the tumor? Do you change the way you have lived your life? Anyone who wants to stay alive will do whatever it takes to have more time here on earth to be with family and loved ones. Those who choose not to change leave the people who know them wondering why.
I am wondering why. We, collectively, have been informed that our lifestyle is slowing killing us and making us unhealthy. We, collectively, have ignored the warnings. We have been told that the planet we live on has a number of fatal diseases, her lungs are failing, her blood has been poisoned and her immune system will soon cease to function. As dire as this prognosis is, we have also been told that if we change the way we live our lives, we could all live long healthy lives.
So let us all thank our good friends on Wall Street for making us aware of how much control we have given to a handful of greedy people. We have also given that same control to industries that have become responsible for the fate of the quality of life for all life on our planet, for us, the generations to come – our sons & daughters, their grandchildren and all who follow. Unfortunately none have taken their responsibilities, to us, future generations or Mother Earth; very seriously. If we continue on our chosen path, we won’t have to travel to the Moon or Mars to build “space stations”. We will be able to build and test them right here at home. We are creating an environment which “we can take a trip and never leave the farm”.

The road we have chosen will create a lifestyle which future generations will inherit. It will be far different from what all of us have been blessed with. We have made this choice by our past actions and inactions. We can choose to create new industries and jobs manufacturing enclosed, self contained habitats where our descendants will live, work, play and grow their food or we can choose a more sensible path.

We have a tremendous opportunity if we all get involved and use just a small amount of common sense. Does it make sense to destroy a $40 trillion a year industry? If we are to pass this planet to our sons and daughters shouldn’t it, at the very least, be in the same condition as we got it? We must start factoring in the long term impact of industries and how they will affect all of us – present and future. Who would have thought a handful of bankers could cause so much pain? We can no longer run from the true cost of things. That was tried by the previous administration by not including, in their annual budgets, the billions of dollars spent each month on two wars. How much do you think that approach has helped?

There is an essential part of our existence that has nothing to do with texting, tweeting, Google, the Internet, HD TV, cars, video games and fashion. We have many options. One is to support industries that work in balance with nature. We could put every man and woman to work by supporting and building industries that would expand instead of contract: high speed rail, solar, wind, geothermal, hydro electric power, electric & hydrogen powered vehicles, quality education, weatherizing homes and commercial buildings, responsible farming methods, new bridges, a new National Security System, and hydrogen & “smart” highways; are only a few. The way we did things a 100 years ago no longer make sense today. Technologies and methods that didn’t make sense 50 years ago are actually some of the best choices we have today. Not only are they better from an environmental perspective but they make more sense from a capitalist’s perspective as well. We don’t have to give up our big SUVs or our HD TVs. We just need to change the way we power them.

The one option we don’t have is time. We are truly in the 11th hour of holding on to the way we have lived on this planet. We don’t have ten or twenty years to change the way we do things. If you have not already seen it, I urge you watch “The 11th Hour”. It is a documentary about some of the issues I have mentioned here. It was produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio who does an excellent job of conveying what is the most important message pertaining to the most important issue of our time.

Many of us, who have been aware of the issue, have felt powerless to fight the Special Interests that have been in control. But the power of the internet has leveled the battlefield a bit. Big corporations can no longer silence the common voice. The ability to convey accurate information quickly, to many and at no cost, has given us a vehicle which can be used to expose the actions of greedy corporations and expose some of our elected politicians that have been bought and paid for by Big Money. As stewards of this planet, we have an obligation to a higher power. What we don’t do today will echo badly through eternity.

Our forefathers were a renegade band of gifted and smart individuals. They framed our Constitution in such a way that it could adjust with time based on world conditions. They knew it would have to in order to live on, as an effective Democracy, implementing the will of the people. It has been modified and it still lives on but it’s the will of large corporations that is being implemented. The two party system made sense at the beginning and it still makes sense, unfortunately it is not working today. The process has been hijacked by Special Interests. I offer one suggestion that was attempted a while ago but didn’t catch on. “Throw the bastards out!” We pay our members of Congress six figure incomes, provide them with their choice of superior Health Insurance programs (with no mention of pre-existing conditions) and give them excellent retirement benefits. The individuals we elected as Democrats and Republicans (most) have banned together to ensure their re-elections rather than doing the work we are paying them to do. The Filibuster is a fairly new tactic (last 20 years). It is the reason many things that should have happened – haven’t. It’s time for US to filibuster the “filibustors”.

In all of our upcoming elections we only vote for Independent Candidates. Incumbents could denounce their party affiliations and if vetted (not having a history of supporting Special Interests), could become an election pick. We can setup “local” websites for candidates to get their message out without the cost of a large campaign. This structure could be used for City, County, State and National elections. This would break the strangle hold Big Money has had on our election process. It would make it possible to elect people for their ideas not their wallets. The billions of dollars saved could be used for much better causes.

I think the sleeping giant is beginning to wake. We can thank Wall Street for giving him the first shake. We have a number of problems that can wait 10-20 years to be addressed by a functioning government. But we do not have 20 years for this one. There was a cartoon that was making fun of the swine flu on the cartoon network channel. There was a crazy scientist, his assistant, and a lab monkey. The crazy scientist was going to leave the assistant in charge for awhile, and when he left, the monkey found some chemicals called the Swine flu. The assistant tried to stop the monkey from fooling around, but the monkey accidentally dropped the chemicals on the assistant, and his head transformed into a pig’s head. DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Ketoconazole is an anti-fungal medication in the same family of drugs as fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox), and miconazole (Micatin, Monistat). It prevents growth of several types of fungi by preventing production of the membranes that surround fungal cells. The FDA approved ketoconazole in June 1981.
STORAGE: Tablets should be stored at room temperature, 15-25 C (59-77 F) and protected from moisture. Store shampoo 1% between 2-30 C (35-86 F) and protect it from light and freezing. Store shampoo 2% at or below 25 C (77 F) and protect it from light. Store cream and foam at room temperature, 20-25 C (68-77 F). Store gel between 15-30 C (59- 86 F).
PRESCRIBED FOR: Oral ketoconazole treats a variety of fungal infections such as candidiasis of the skin or mouth (thrush), blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, coccidiomycosis, and others. Ketoconazole is also used to treat fungal infections that have not responded to griseofulvin, another antifungal medication. Topical ketoconazole is used for treating ringworm, jock itch, athlete’s foot, dandruff, and tinea versicolor.
DOSING: Ketoconazole may be taken with or without food. The oral dose range is 200-400 mg daily. Topical formulations are administered to affected areas once or twice daily.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: There are no known drug interactions with topical ketoconazole.
Ketoconazole tablets require stomach acidity to dissolve. Therefore, ketoconazole should be administered at least two hours before taking antacids or other acid reducing medications such as cimetidine (Tagamet) or ranitidine (Zantac). Combining ketoconazole with alcohol may cause a very unpleasant reaction (disulfiram reaction).
Rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifamate, Rifater) reduces the blood concentration of oral ketoconazole, probably by increasing the elimination of fluconazole by the liver. This may reduce the effectiveness of ketoconazole.
Ketoconazole may increase the concentration of warfarin (Coumadin) in blood by reducing the elimination of warfarin. Therefore, the effect of warfarin may increase, leading to an increased tendency to bleed.
Ketoconazole also increases the concentration of phenytoin, (Dilantin) cyclosporine, zidovudine (Retrovir), theophylline (Theo-Dur, Respbid, Slo-Bid, Theo-24, Theolair, Uniphyl, Slo-Phyllin), tolbutamide, glyburide (Micronase, Diabeta, Glynase), glipizide (Glucotrol), protease inhibitors [for example, indinavir (Crixivan), ritonavir (Norvir), saquinavir (Invirase, Fortovase)], midazolam (Versed) and triazolam (Halcion). Increased drug concentrations usually increase the incidence of side effects.
Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid’s Many Benefits
Manual transmissions or gearboxes, like automatic transmissions, are the vehicle’s main component which distributes the power created by it’s engine to the wheels. Both applications control that engine power and deliver it to the wheels in order to produce a desired speed, but each does it in very different ways. In the manual transmission, the driver controls the engagement of gears for each shift with the movement of a clutch. The clutch allows the engine’s flywheel to separate from the manual transmission in order for it’s gears, often moving at different speeds, to slow down, coast, and then re-engage at the correct time. This allows a smooth engagement of gears at a different ratio in order to move to a different speed. Oil for manual transmissions act as the lubricant for this engagement.
The engagement of gears when shifting a manual transmission incorrectly can cause a terrible noise of metal on metal grinding. This noise is caused by the metal gears not engaging at the same speed. This often happens with inexperienced users, leaving metal debris in the fluid, eventually causing even more harm to those gears in the future. Even with experienced drivers, the gears in a manual transmission wear over time because they are not always perfectly engaged each and every time it is shifted. The oil for manual transmissions must be a very specific composition and viscosity in order to handle such wear.
With this propensity to wear over time, the oil used in a manual transmission, much like the oil in a differential, must be a specific thickness and viscosity. Because synthetic manual transmission or differential oil is scientifically designed for uniformity and more specific purposes, it tends to be better than conventional oils for this application. Conventional oils are refined from crude oil and are unstable and often full of byproducts that slip through in the process. Synthetic manual transmission oil is chemically engineered to have a uniform molecular structure. This allows it to flow in the gearbox more smoothly and creates an easier engagement of gears on each shift over time. This smoother shifting will lengthen the life of the manual transmission and also increase the fuel economy of the engine in that vehicle.
Another benefit of synthetic fluids are that they last longer and are less subject to thermal breakdown over time. With oils for manual transmissions being changed at longer intervals than their counterparts, synthetic manual transmission or differential oil will hold up to the stresses of gear engagement and high temperatures created by this friction longer than conventional, petroleum based fluids.

Eczema, a skin condition closely related to dermatitis, causes painful flare-ups and itching. The redness, rashes and scaly skin of eczema is controlled by prescription medications in severe cases. The tenderness and itching some patients suffer make daily tasks difficult and require adjustments in clothing, activity and cosmetic use. Minimize eczema flare-ups by following the tips below.
1. Figure out why you’re skin is flaring up. Stress, a change in diet, beauty products or makeup, or even close contact with harsh cleaning fluids such as detergent or dish washing liquids can cause eczema outbreaks.
2. Eliminate products with cheap, harmful ingredients from your selves and medicine cabinets. Formaldehyde, used in many cosmetics, triggers eczema flare-ups in many patients. Polyethylene Glycol, a common ingredient in cleaning products, contributes to outbreaks. Mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrances and isopropyl alcohol also cause eczema flare-ups and may cause headaches and dizziness as well.
3. Choose a high-quality emollient. Herbal brands in lotion, cream, oil or ointment form work best without harming sensitive tissue. Ingredients like shea butter, emu oil and oatmeal soothe the skin naturally, so look for these names on product labels. Aveeno, Eucerin and Cetaphil make over-the-counter lotions, creams and baths for eczema prone skin.
4. Prevent eczema from the inside. Buy fish oil capsules, zinc, Vitamin A and Vitamin B complex capsules and take them on a regular basis. By providing your body with anti-inflammatory agents and increasing circulation, these vitamins and supplements will increase your resistance to flare-ups.
5. Avoid stress. Don’t let trivial things bother you. Meditate or practice breathing exercises. Read positive quotes and self-help books. A good attitude will help your body as well as your mind and prevent eczema flare-ups.
6. Stay out of the sun. Direct sunlight aggravates eczema, so stay out of the sun when you can. If you must go out in the sun, cover up with a hat.
7. Improve your diet. Allergic reactions to foods like shellfish, cow’s milk, eggs and soy cause eczema in some people. Consult your dermatologist to ascertain what foods in your diet may be adding to your problems. A healthy diet high in Vitamins A and B and full of fruits and vegetables will cut down on skin breakouts.
