Swine Flu Paper Presentation

April 30th, 2008

Basic Things You Need to Know about the Swine Flu Outbreak

The Swine Flu outbreak these days alarm the public because of its rapid spread, first in Mexico, then in the US and some other nearby countries. Now it continues to spread even to Middle East and Asia-Pacific countries. Swine flue has been affecting human beings before but it has never been so disturbing as the present outbreak.

In the midst of this epidemic, people should be aware of some basic details to prevent acquiring the said fast-killing flu.

What is Swine Flu?

From its name, swine influenza is a viral disease trasmitted among pigs. This is a respiratory disease that circulates within pig populations, but certain outbreaks occur on cold season, on winter and fall, just like how ordinary flu affects human beings.

How is it transmitted to people?

Swine flu infects human beings and over two thousand cases of affected individuals confirm that swine flu is indeed something to be taken seriously. Normally, swine flu is not transmitted to humans. But within the bodies of swines, a process called the antigenic shift make swine flu a very contagious disease not only among pigs but also among us, people.

Pigs are not only  carriers of ordinary swine flu viruses, they are also carriers of other animals’ viruses- such as of birds and of human beings. This ordinary human flu can turn into a human-infecting swine flu once combined with other flu viruses. As different types of viruses are being carried by pigs, viruses may reassort and swap genes with each other to develop a new strain of flu virus. This evolved virus is now being responsible for the present swine flu epidemic.

What are the symptoms and effects of swine flu?

Swine flue affects people people like the ordinary flu such as sore throat, cough, nasal congestion, fever, headache, chills body aches, and fatigue. Some patients also reported diarrhea and vomiting as symptoms.

Although swine flu is curable with some drugs, about 150 deaths that were caused by swine flu have been reported.

What should we do?

To prevent swine flu, peolple should take personal health precautions such as cleaning one’s hands and other hygenic practices. Since swine flu appears to be just like an ordinary flu, it would be wise for people, whether they think they have swine flu or not, to cough and sneeze on tissue papers and properly dispose them on trash cans. People should also refrain from touching their lips, eyes and nose unless their hands are really clean.

Swine flu is not transmitted by eating pork since swine flue viruses are killed in meat-cooking tempearture. However, one should still be careful when eating or drinking. It would be safe to make sure that one’s food are safe from germs.

There are antiviral drugs against swine flu such as Tamiflu (oseltamivir) or Relenza (zanamivir). These can be taken for both prevention and cure of swine flu.

With a proper way of facing this present health threat, people will prevent being infected by this epidemic.

Swine Flu Epidemic or Media Dummy

Swine Flu Epidemic or Media Dummy
Are we under the thread of catching a swine flu? It is true??? Or is it just a media dummy run by the government to control people? It is much easier to control masses when they are scared.

A great number of Ukrainians believe in everything what is said about the flu on TV. The news has caused a panic in Ukraine. People are buying up anti-flu medicines, vaccines and masks. As Ukrainian chemists are running out of stock, some Ukrainians are going to Poland to get medication. Ukrainian hospitals, which are being inundated by worried people, are considering drafting in medical students to help out. Schools and universities have been closed for three weeks.

People on the streets look scared. People talk only about flu. The lightest cough is considered to be a sign of a swine flu. News says about a great number of infected people, though doctors do not take responsibility to say it is swine flu. The panic is so large scale that people buy out all possible medicines from the drug stores (which is good for drugstores).

Young people on the streets wearing masks behave as if they play a new on-line game. The whole picture is ridiculous!!! Every year much more people dying from the seasonal flu epidemics, so what? Should we close Ukraine every time it is a seasonal epidemic?

I also doubt our doctors can state it is swine flu taking to account the state of medical hospitals that lack laboratories. I mean is it really a swine flu or they were just said to make such diagnose to all people with flu.

I believe that the whole 46 mn country is manipulated with a help of two words “swine flu”. In the beginning of the year it was the word “crisis”, but it does not scare nobody any longer, so the media with the government find another term to make people easy to manipulate. A lot of diseases start from the thought that you have it.

The whole situation with swine flu and how people try to find its symptoms reminded me the story Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog), by Jerome K. Jerome.

Here is the extract: “It is a most extraordinary thing, but I never read a patent medicine advertisement without being impelled to the conclusion that I am suffering from the particular disease therein dealt with in its most virulent form. The diagnosis seems in every case to correspond exactly with all the sensations that I have ever felt.

I remember going to the British Museum one day to read up the treatment for some slight ailment of which I had a touch - hay fever, I fancy it was. I got down the book, and read all I came to read; and then, in an unthinking moment, I idly turned the leaves, and began to indolently study diseases, generally. I forget which was the first distemper I plunged into - some fearful, devastating scourge, I know - and, before I had glanced half down the list of “premonitory symptoms,” it was borne in upon me that I had fairly got it.

I sat for awhile, frozen with horror; and then, in the listlessness of despair, I again turned over the pages. I came to typhoid fever - read the symptoms - discovered that I had typhoid fever, must have had it for months without knowing it - wondered what else I had got; turned up St. Vitus’s Dance - found, as I expected, that I had that too, - began to get interested in my case, and determined to sift it to the bottom, and so started alphabetically - read up ague, and learnt that I was sickening for it, and that the acute stage would commence in about another fortnight. Bright’s disease, I was relieved to find, I had only in a modified form, and, so far as that was concerned, I might live for years. Cholera I had, with severe complications; and diphtheria I seemed to have been born with. I plodded conscientiously through the twenty-six letters, and the only malady I could conclude I had not got was housemaid’s knee.

I felt rather hurt about this at first; it seemed somehow to be a sort of slight. Why hadn’t I got housemaid’s knee? Why this invidious reservation? After a while, however, less grasping feelings prevailed. I reflected that I had every other known malady in the pharmacology, and I grew less selfish, and determined to do without housemaid’s knee. Gout, in its most malignant stage, it would appear, had seized me without my being aware of it; and zymosis I had evidently been suffering with from boyhood. There were no more diseases after zymosis, so I concluded there was nothing else the matter with me.”

The same with us, when we repeatedly hear the symptoms of swine flu we start feel these symptoms. If there are so many people infected with it, why should I be special?

So my lesson from the whole situation: “Watch TV less, all heard in the media should be divided into 10 to make it close to the truth. Behind the swine flu epidemic there is a political or financial group trying to make money on the panic and trying to manipulate you to achieve their goals.

Please, do not be so easy to manipulate. If it is so easy to create a national panic just in few days, we would probably have such epidemics once every six months. Don’t let them do it. Drink more tea with lemon and wash your hands instead of buying out drugs!!!

Steady Flow Fluid Dynamics

Fluid Dynamics- Water Siphon?

A siphon is used to drain water from a tank. The siphon has a uniform diameter. Assume steady flow without friction.

(a) If the distance h = 1.06 m, find the speed of outflow at the end of the siphon.

(b) What is the limitation on the height of the top of the siphon above the water surface? (For the flow of liquid to be continuous, the pressure must not drop below the vapor pressure of the liquid.)

I figured out part a to be 4.56 m/s, which is correct. It is part b where I need help. I figure I have to use Bernoulli’s Equation, but I do not know where to go from there at all.

Here’s a diagram of the proposed setup for this problem.
http://www.webassign.net/pse/p15-43.gif

Please help. Thanks.

for part b, the limitation is a constant. it will always be 10.3m

Stomach Flu Black Diarrhea

April 30th, 2008

stomach flu black diarrhea

flu(tirdness, throw up, unsettled stomach, sinus headache…now today i have black diarrhea and a stiff neck?

can anyone help sugested what to do

If you have taken any Pepto-bismol, this will make your diarrhea black. You need to be taking tylenol or ibuprofen on a regular basis, taking water, white soda or gatorade in small amounts frequently. The stiff neck could be related to this viral illness but if it gets progressively worse and worse, even with the use of regular pain medication, then you need a medical evaluation. If it gets better and goes away, you can continue to treat this yourself. The diarrhea usually lasts a day or two after the vomiting stops. This is your body’s way of getting the offending “bug” out of your system.

Clear Fluids Definition

clear fluids definition

Sentences for vocab help?

I need sentences for these words (I’ll provide the definitions):

plasma - the clear yellowish fluid portion of the blood.

polymer - any of numerous natural or synthetic compounds.

quasar - an extremely distant celestial object whose power output is thousands of times that of our entire galaxy.

quotidian - commonplace

reciprocal - performed, experienced, or felt by both sides.

reparation - the act or process of repairing, making amends.

So here goes:
1. After jabbing me with a needle and filling the vial, the lab tech put my blood in a centrifuge, to separate the plasma from the blood cells.

2. So how was I supposed to know that it wasn’t a “cheap plastic bangle,” as I called it, but instead a slick $400 job made out of Bakelite, some 75-year-old polymer?

3. Someday our great-great-grandchildren may figure out a way to harness the vast electromagnetic energy of quasars–hopefully before the world’s oil runs out.

4. Great-grandma’s 89, but she still enjoys the quotidian pleasures of life: making beds, putting out the garbage, and happy hour.

5. We entered into a reciprocal agreement: I’d teach him ski jumping if he’d show me how to set a broken leg.

6. In reparation for that little accident that happened to me and dad’s new car, I will be mowing the lawn, babysitting the little monsters, and staying home on weekend nights for the next month–oh yeah, and paying the bill at the bodyshop.

There you go!

1918 Flu Epidemic Symptoms

April 29th, 2008

1918 flu epidemic symptoms

swine flu, a repeat of the past?

could it be a terror attack on the whole world, or could it be a repeat of the 1918 epidemic?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1918_flu_pandemic

it seems that the symptoms are similar, but then there was a further ’swine flu’ investigation in 1976, in new jersey, where they prepared for the virus with vacinne that seemed to to kill more people than help them. what do we make out of it, now that they predict a second ‘wave’?

It’s probably going to be like SARS and the Avian Flu. It’s around the world but it’s deaths are chiefly centric to where it started: Mexico. I wouldn’t be too afraid of the Swine Flu, but I’d recommend you get some food and medical supplies in case it comes knocking at your front door.

Cheerleader gets a Swine Flu shot & now she can only walk BACKWARDS!?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKiF2lCe-H4&feature=related

Can any doctors/neurologists/medical professionals confirm that her story stacks up? Is her behaviour consistent with dystonia?

This is the first time I’ve heard of it and I’ll be perfectly honest - I’m very sceptical.

I don’t know if the shot is related.I don’t get them anyway, but if I was considering it would lean me to no.I don’t think most people need any flu shots.Very old, very young, people with respitory problems.

These cookies are very good and tasty, once you eat some you will keep coming back for more and more. They are good for parties, gifts, birthdays and much more. Try making your own and your friends and family will always remember who made these chewy oatmeal raisin cookies. Chewy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies recipe: A great snack for the kids for after school. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Substitute some of the white flour for whole wheat flour and add chopped dried fruits. Set aside using a beater attachment and a stand mixer, beat butter on medium speed until creamy. Scrape bowl Add eggs one at a time, then add vanilla and beat again. In bowl of electric mixer or by hand, beat butter until creamy. Beat in egg and vanilla extract, beat until well combined. Great taste and texture dough seemed dry and a little difficult to spoon, but it worked. Beat together butter and sugars until creamy. Beat butter and sugars in a large bowl with mixer on medium-high speed until fluffy. Beat in molasses, eggs, vanilla, baking soda, cinnamon and salt may look curdled. Use a mixture of blends of rolled oats, wheat, rye and other rolled grains. Beat in the egg then stir in the milk and vanilla. Cream butter and sugar together thoroughly, then beat in water. Combine shortening, brown sugar, egg, milk, and vanilla, beat with mixer on high speed to blend well. Add wheat germ, oats, baking powder, baking soda, and salt and blend well. Add vanilla while beaters are mixing the dough. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. In a separate bowl combine oats, flour, soda, baking powder and salt. Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg if using and salt in separate bowl. Beat in molasses, eggs, vanilla, baking soda, cinnamon and salt may look curdled. Mix in the flour, oats, baking soda and cinnamon until well blended. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt optional and mix well. Baking Over baking can also cause your cookies to flatten out. If using parchment, remove baking sheets from oven and immediately slide cookies on parchment directly onto cooling racks. If you don’t use parchment, let the cookies cool directly on the baking sheet for two minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt, stir into the creamed mixture until just blended. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets. Prepare baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper or spraying with vegetable shortening. Cookies will continue to bake after taken from the oven so don’t over do it. Salt that is suggested in cookie recipes are generally listed for bakers who use unsalted butter. Thick chewy oatmeal raisin cookies if you want really thick chewy cookie chill the dough before you bake it. These cookies are absolutely delicious and absolutely addictive! Old fashioned soft & chewy homemade oatmeal raisin cookie recipe like Grandma used to make. At the very least, it’s a good source of fiber and everyone needs more of that in their diet! These cookies are great so get ready to start being the talk of your family. At www.Teegoes.com you will see a great selection cookies, pies and gifts.

Pressure Fluid Velocity

Popular Types of Power Washers

The industrial power washer has a variety of types. These are the aqueous parts washers, ultrasonic washers and automotive parts washers. They vary in their usages.

There are different types of industrial power washers or cleansers that are available in the market. Among them are, automotive parts washers, aqueous parts washers, parts washer, and ultrasonic washers, to name a few.

Aqueous parts washers are commonly used to clean mechanized instruments and components accurately and effectively. These types of washers employ various methods to sanitize, to make sure that the products are hygienic prior to distributing them to clients. Cleaning machines like these do away with rusts, dusts, bacteria, and loads more of contaminants. These washers are best for uninterrupted cleaning of components. These also have some features like conveyor belts which convey parts by way of the washing tunnels wherein they’re irritated by means of hot water sprays. The belts can also be customized to run at velocities reaching at up to eight feet per minute.

These washers are significant to manufacturers due to businesses that oblige cleansed components and pieces either for demands of the clients or for more advanced processing. This specialized washing equipment gives proficient automatic, hands-free cleaning procedures.

Among the important factors in choosing aqueous parts washers and cleaning apparatus are parts quantity, parts material, and the objects to be cleaned off. All of these factors influence the type of parts cleaning equipment required. It is because they vary from closed loop parts cleaning to sink top loading parts washing units.

Automotive parts washers are similar to aqueous washers. They also make use of intense water and other industrial detergents to degrease and scrub the automotive parts and equipment, including the purging of paint, carbon, and sludge. These are exploited for auto repair, automobile manufacturing, and engine and transmission repair shops. Some of the essential features to look for in this type of washer consist of insulation, low water shutoff, and a funnel-type floor for simple cleanout. Keeping the efficiency of these kinds of washer would just entail controlling its agitation, temperature, pH level and operating time to make the most of cleaning efficiency without risking damage.

A parts washer is equipment that cleans parts and machineries with competence. It cleanses and removes stain, burrs, corrosion, and other types of contaminants. It also presents clean parts and prepared surfaces for further procedures that could be done. Conventional parts washer procedures and paraphernalia such as hot water and degreasing equipment are generally satisfactory for lubricant removal, grease, machining oil, and other soluble surface debris that can be easily seen by the naked eye. Vital cleansing would require washing smaller particles with a higher degree of meticulousness and substantiation of the parts to reach the standard in the process.

Ultrasonic washers take on board of the millions of bubbles in order to create a figure of scrubbing that reaches into channels and hidden parts of the product immersed into a fluid mixture of pure water, solvent, or vapor. It uses frequencies to regulate the size and amount of the creation and collapse of the bubbles. Ultrasonic washers come with some specialized cleaning machines that are used in the industrial applications so as to clean an assortment of parts and products.

These washers are more environment-friendly than utilizing hazardous chemicals or chemical solvents. Sadly, some of the strongly bonded greases, soils, and other impurities cannot at all times be removed by using these washers alone. However, by combining aqueous cleaning methods with ultrasonic cleaning technology, it would be an enormously effective and safe cleaning scheme. The advantages of using these washers include accuracy, consistency, and speed.
