Something other than mint flavor?

I really don’t like the taste of mint (or citrus for that matter), both are too strong for me. This leaves with me with very few options in terms of toothpaste and mouthwash. Despite being 22, I am using toothpaste geared towards children. The question, however, is what do I do for the mouthwash? Since I can’t seem to keep it in my mouth long enough to work (five seconds is my top) I don’t use mouthwash and do the best I can in terms of brushing and flossing to make up for this.

Hi! I have the same problem. Althought Im a huge fan of Mint Ice cream, I CANNOT stand Mint toothpaste/mouthwash. It leaves a gross pasty taste in my mouth that combines with my breakfast and…ICK! Well anyways, don’t try Vanilla toothpaste. Been there done that, its almost as gross. I say stick to Watermelon flavored toothpaste. It’s always the most freshing, yet non-Mint/citrus flavor ive gotten. As for mouthwash the answer is “Tom’s Mouthwash”. Now I know you don’t like Mint, neither do I and it says peppermint on the front but trust me. This thing tastes SOOO good. The flavor is amazing and leaves your mouth feeling refreshed and bacteria free. It has a specific ingredient “witchhazel” which Im not sure what it does, but it has to be what makes it such an attractive taste. Hope they work out for you. If you have a raw cacao and/or unsweetened cocoa allergy, what are your symptoms?

I ate quite a few raw cacao nibs yesterday and my face has been extremely red and flushed all day. Needless to say, I won’t be eating them anymore. That is the only new item that I added to my diet, so I’m assuming it was the raw cacao that contributed to the rash.

Almost all food allergies are the same, definitely stop eating the cocoa altogether.

Bird Flu Outbreaks

Of all the avian influenza viruses that are seen in both humans and birds the subtype H5N1 caused the largest number of infections in humans. This subtype leaded to severe diseases and even death. More than that, it is believed that the registered cases are a small percentage of the real number of people that carry the virus. The registered cases are considered the severe ones while the unregistered and unreported cases are believed to be milder and without complications.

The H5N1 virus does not affect humans easily and if one person is infected it is impossible to spread the virus to another one. That is why this infection remains a rare disease in humans. Even so, as we said before, it is the most common infection that is seen in both birds and humans. The most affected regions are Asia, some parts of Europe, the Near East and Africa. More than half of these people that were reported as being infected with H5N1 have died. Most of them were children or young adults and have developed the virus after getting in direct contact with infected poultry or surfaces.

Even if some cases prove that the virus spreads from human to human too, specialists try not to agree. For sustaining the cause we have to remember that in 2004 in Thailand a human to human spread of the virus was reported in a family resulting from prolonged and very close contact between an ill child and his mother. Recently in June 2006 it was reported that a family of 8 was infected. The first family member is believed to have caught the virus from an infected poultry. He spread the infection to all of his family members, direct or indirect. It was proved that this family did not spread the virus to other persons except their family members.

The specialists are concerned that these influenza viruses have the ability to change, to mutate. They are also worried about the fact that the bird flu virus could merge with another human flu virus and may develop a new highly contagious and fatal virus that can lead to flu pandemics.

The risk of a pandemic is high and no one can tell when it is going to occur. That is why experts around the globe are watching the H5N1 situation in Asia, Europe and other possible infected areas and prepare for the possibility of person to person spread.

No vaccine or certain treatment is developed for these problems. it is only known that the viruses are resistant to amantadine and rimantadine, two antiviral medications used for influenza. It is believed that oseltamavir and zanamavir would work in treating influenza caused by H5N1 but additional studies have to be done.

Pregnant woman and swine flu?

Have any of you pregnant woman had swine flu and what happened? Do you know of someone who has had swine flu (pregnant?)?

The idea of swine flu during pregnancy is scary, I know. I even just read somewhere that they are recommending that pregnant women avoid work if they work with the public, so I have 12 weeks pregnant and work in a restaurant so I did a little research. So far 0.4% of cases of swine combustion have resulted in death, most of which have been linked to other medical complications (unfortunately I could not sure how many are also related to pregnancy), the figure of 0.4% is approximately the same for death by the normal seasonal influenza, making the swine flu is more dangerous. He has also been a large number of unreported cases of swine combustion so that the figure is actually probably much lower, making it less dangerous than the flu seasonal normal. In pregnancy, it reduces the immune system. However what is not published is the fact that only part of our immune system is reduced and elsewhere are in augmented reality (I did my studies in clinical biology.) I hope this information assures you a little, in fact the media are more than dramatize and induce much fear, especially to pregnant women. Please continue doing the necessary precautions to protect yourself, but please do not worry anymore.

My Mercury 60hp 4 stroke engine gave a warning alarm, then cut power..?

The engine is well serviced and has low hours. 2003/04 model. This also happened several trips ago, but a thorough flush and back flush of the system appeared to cure the problem. Now after several fishing trips the alarm has again sounded. I have what appears to be plenly of water spurting out, a good jet of water. The alarm cuts the power to low revs and the alarm stops. once power is re-applied the engine is ok until it reaches 5500-6000 revs then again cuts the power with alarm sounding. My dealer strongly suggests ‘oil pump cooling kit is needed’ which is approx £130 plus £240 labour as its is an all day job + vat…..
Has anyone had this problem before as the dealer has said its common with this year and makle of engine.

I need to know whether the alarm is steady, or an intermittent beep. In your owners manual there is a chart that explains the different funtcions of the alarm. I think for that year the guardian monitored 5 different functions ( heat, low oil, low volts, sensor faults, and guardian failure), but to be sure and to understand the codes consult your owners manual.
Oil pump cooling kit……………. I have been a Merc dealer since the very first 4 stroke outboard, and i have never heard of such an item. Could you or your dealer provide me with further info on this item, like a part #? This must be something i missed in 18 years of service school.
One thing you don’t mention is if your dealer scanned the motor. The PCM stores all alarm activations, and releases them with a DDT or CDS scan. If your dealer did not do this basic diagnosis, then i would seriously look for another dealer.

One thing i do remember about those years of motors is that the thermostat had a low lifespan, if you are getting a hot motor signal, this could be the problem. Hope this helps, good luck.

Can my Dog Catch the Swine Flu?

Unfortunately, the answer to this question is not known but there is a possibility. In fact, in November of 2009 a case of swine flu was confirmed in a cat. Prior to that, two ferrets had the disease which eventually killed them. So far, scientists have not found a case in which a human got the virus from one of these animals, but there are cases in which verified swine flu has jumped from human to pet.

Doctors and veterinarians are still studying the swine flu but what has been confirmed is a new strain of dog flu. In fact it is such a new strain that if your dog is exposed he will probably get it because he has no immunity.

 This is a time to take extra care when searching for puppies for sale. Since this flu is new, with no immunity, if the mother catches it you can bet her litter will also get sick. Really inspect the litter, the mother and any other dogs in the house before you take your new pup home. This is especially important if you have other dogs in your home that can catch the flu from the new arrival.

Symptoms of this flu (not all have to be present) are:

Depression

Listlessness

Sneezing

Dry, hacking cough (humidifiers can help your dogs with this)

Gagging or choking

Runny eyes

Loss of appetite

Dehydration - lightly pull your dog’s skin and if it stays without immediately going back, then there is dehydration in the dog. If your dog has not been eating or drinking, dehydration is a distinct possibility. Sometimes the dog will drink cold milk and it is worth it to try that because any liquid you can get down a dehydrated dog will help.

Loss of energy

Extreme lethargy

High fever (over 105)

Yellow or green discharge (the color may indicate infection)

The dog flu symptoms are very much like kennel cough; however, in kennel cough, the primary symptom is that constant cough.

There is a vaccine out for your dog to prevent this flu; however, if one of your dogs gets the dog flu, again they will probably all get it. So far there is no evidence to indicate humans can get this flu.

 If your dog develops a secondary infection from the flu, he may need to be put on an antibiotic; he could even develop pneumonia.

 Pet owners know their animals seem to get little bugs just like humans get and have seen their share of colds and flu-like symptoms in their dogs. This new flu is different. The depression is a symptom that really stands out.

 Responsible dog owners will keep an eye out for these flu-like symptoms in their dogs and avoid dog parks and other public areas if their dogs are ill. Breeders need to be aware of this new strain of flu as it can spread through a kennel very quickly. While it is not normally fatal like the dreaded parvo virus, it is especially dangerous to newborn pups or elder dogs.

It should be noted that this flu as well as the vaccine are both newly discovered. It might be a good time to avoid taking your dog to the veterinarian unless completely necessary because like a doctor’s office for humans, this can be a good place for your pet to catch the flu.

If your dog is sick, make sure it gets plenty to drink. Monitor its fever. Kennel owners will usually have access to antibiotics once an infection has been confirmed. Responsible breeders will make sure the flu has run its course before sending a puppy or dog to a new home.

If your dog does get the new dog flu, it is most likely that he will then have immunity to any future exposure
