Common Flute Problems

common flute problems

Back Health Is A Gift To Men

I never considered using yoga for any health reason, nor to help my back problems, until I was introduced to it by a woman that came into my life. As the father with two sons, I kept a busy lifestyle, with all the requirements of their busy daily lives. I also enjoyed the outdoors by running long distance, mountain climbing, swimming, and of course-working.

As time went on I noticed more and more problems with back pain, such as tight muscles, stiffness, and soreness that stemmed from my back into my legs. Although I never had any serious injury, my time in the Marines as an infantryman and a car accident in my 30’s had added to the problem. Perhaps I simply felt like this was part of aging, and I would just have to deal with it.

I would tell my family doctor about the back pain, he would do a ‘routine’ assessment, one Dr. suggested I had Sciatica and offered some type of pain killer (which I didn’t want to take), and there was no real damage to be addressed with surgery. I attended a few chiropractic visits which included X-rays and regular adjustment schedule. The chiropractic adjustments helped some, but the visits were brief, and really didn’t help with the muscle pain, tightness and the soreness that went from my back to my legs.

I would regularly use a heating rub like Tiger balm or a heating pad or Jacuzzi pool for some comfort, and did as many stretches as I could think of to relieve the tension in those areas. I continued with my active outdoor lifestyle despite the pain and discomfort, because I love being athletic and working hard.

And then, when I wasn’t even seeking it or expecting it, something wonderful happened that caused a change in my back situation. I met a fantastic young lady and we began dating. Her profession was a Yoga instructor. Yoga was something that I knew nothing about, except perhaps my notions that this was a sport for women, and I imagined them in a room twisting themselves into pretzels while chanting, burning incense and listening to flute music.

On a whim one day, I decided to surprise my ‘new love’ at a local yoga class she was teaching. I did not even know what to wear, but since the class was in a common area between a coffee shop and a library in our town, I figured I could fake it in a pair of cargo shorts and a t-shirt.

Trying hard to act like I knew what I was doing, (and not embarrass myself in front a girl I was still trying to impress and catch), I went through the moves with as much precision as possible. I was surprised at the amount of muscle and endurance required…I got a workout! True that some of the poses made my back tight, but she quickly taught me how to breathe into the discomfort, and also assisted her students with adjustments to their poses to be aligned properly.

I learned from Laurie that yoga is not about competition, but that it is for working on yourself and your mind-body connection. The flexibility that comes from doing yoga is excellent at relieving tension in your back.

I kept coming back to yoga classes. True, I was very attracted to my girlfriend, but in just 2 or 3 sessions, my back was feeling amazingly better. I was not much for the advanced poses that resembled pretzels, but I did my best at the basics, and it worked.

Men often overlook taking care of their back from the standpoint of care and flexibility, and most men experience back problems. The lucky few live with only slight pain or inconvenience from time to time. But according to reports,  80% of men suffer back problems, and are forced to endure back pain that hinders their health and well being.

A woman can do a lot to help encourage her man to try yoga with her.  Doing about 30 minutes of a properly sequenced Yoga routine 2 -3 times a week can do wonders, and this can be done at home using a DVD. With her encouragement and starting at home, she can give her man an introduction to yoga that will over ride his fears or distaste of doing yoga. And, it is a wonderful activity that you two can enjoy together.

Even a man that has experienced a serious injury, yoga will help him increase flexibility, relive back pain, increase strength and actually lengthen his muscles.

Laurie, the instructor spoken about in this article, felt so strongly about the subject of men doing yoga to help their back, that she developed a class titled “Men’s Back Health Through Yoga”. The class is taught at her studio, in the local Adult Education program, and is available on DVD for use at home.

I am pleased to have been involved with it, and that my back feels so much better, no matter what I do.

So, give your man the gift of a back health- using yoga!

Flu Phlegm Color

September 27th, 2006

flu phlegm color

Any idea what might be going on?

I have fever, chills, hot flashes, productive cough, pretty moderate chest pain, along with pain in the upper back ( lung area) sharp pains that come and go in the kidney area, thigh and calf muscles. Also getting random body aches as well, which could just be the fever. This is pretty gross but the phlegm is a rusty color. Being treated for the flu but I seem to be getting worse instead of better.

There is a nasty flu going around that can last for over a week—and it affects your whole body as you described. Hope you feel better soon!

Swine Flu Causes Death

September 27th, 2006

swine flu causes death

Could Brittany Murphy have had the swine flu that caused her death?

They say she had flu-like symptoms days before her death, and was on meds. I know with a heart attack, there can be stomach upset, but i doubt there would be flu-like symptoms. I would imagine the typical flu-like symptoms were she had were coughing, sneezing, nausea, vomiting. The Swine flu is a very unpredictable flu, where it feels like you were getting better, and then it hits you again and you’re hospitalized. You can get better in the hospital, if you’re lucky, or you could die. It really does damage to the lungs, causing clots and other problems. So i’m wondering if she had swine flu. It kinda makes you wonder, with her sudden death. She was thin as a rail, so that could have made it worse for her where someone else who was average weight might have beaten it.

She could have and there are some variations of the swine flu that are pretty vicious..

When we think of plagues, we think of AIDS, Ebola, anthrax spores, and, of course, the Black Death. But in 1918 the Great Flu Epidemic killed an estimated 40 million people virtually overnight. If such a plague returned today, taking a comparable percentage of the U.S. population with it, 1.5 million Americans would die. In Flu, Gina Kolata, an acclaimed reporter for The New York Times, unravels …

Diesel Emission Fluid

September 26th, 2006

diesel emission fluid

The Future Of The Big Rig

How will Trucks look in the future look? Lets see some real examples of innovations and prototypes. The most important aspect is the energy source. The energetic crisis and the pollution are the two axles for the engineers of the future.

Westport Innovation, a company specializing in environmental technologies, recently implemented the High Pressure Direct Injection technology for diesel trucks. This technology consists of a liquefied natural gas powered truck to reduce the gas emissions and economizes the fuel. The trucks have 400 hp Cummins ISX engines with Exhaust Gas Recirculation. That results in a quiet, efficient and clean travel.

The company Daimler Chrysler in Germany is also working on the fuel use and no pollution engines. Blue Tec is the name of the new technology according to the Daimler Chrysler web site. This technology combines the engine design with the Selective Catalytic Reduction which is a system to reduce the nitrogen oxides emissions. Blue Tech is a diesel technology specially designed for the truck division of Mercedes Benz.

Some leave the fuel alternatives to others and go for the rest of the engine, especially the Department of Energy. The idea is to separate parts such as the pumps, the alternators, compressors and such from the engine. This way you can transform those parts from gas to full electric. A cooler engine compartment will extend the life of the engine. Also the independent electrical powered parts would work more precisely.

Big manufacturing companies are collaborating with the Department of Energy such as Caterpillar, Kenworth, Emerson and Engineered Machine Products. The prototype is installed on a Kenworth truck and the experts could eliminate more than 65 parts by more precise and reliable components.

Now on to driver control. In the recent Volvo Showcase, the company demonstrated its new ESP system which helps the driver do what he does best, drive. The system perceives the maneuvers of the drivers and corrects the movements of the truck by braking the wheels or brings down the power of the engine.

The ESP system includes three cameras installed on the driver’s cab and in the steering wheels. The cameras are in charge of watching for the drowsiness of the driver and the inconstant maneuvers and it produces a warning to the driver.

The steering systems are also targeted by the innovators. For example, SKF proposed an electromechanical steering system instead of the conventional hydraulic system. This invention consists in a sequence of signals that tell the actuator to steer the wheels. The action is confirmed or adjusted by sensors and informed back to the driver. The advantages of the electromechanical system are to eliminate the hydraulic fluids so there would be no more high pressure leaks and less noise in the driver’s cab.

These continuous changes and improvements in the truck industry still keep function as the number one focus. The replacement of the human driver by a mechanic one is still considerably far away. Fortunately, that’s something for the future.

Seasonal Flu Symptoms And Treatment

September 25th, 2006

I think I have H1N1, help a fella out?

Had some of the symptoms listed in the database

-cough
-mild fever
-not sore throat, but imflamed throat…as if there was a lump inside

now, I’m concerned as hell, cuz everyone was saying ” oh it’s nothing to worry about, it’s not as bad as the seasonal flu” but it also says it affects young people..I just turned 20 a month ago, I am obese, and that’s another group that is at risk..I will go to the clinic..but I’m afraid that I might get some bad side effects with the treatment they give…like gee, I dunno…AUSTIM? DEATH? yea, no thanks…does that mean just because I fit in the age demographic, im gonna automatically die?

OK, relax. Even though 20 year olds are the group that suffer most severely, the ones that do make up an extremely small percentage of all infected 20 year olds.

Also, those symptoms are incredibly general. If you were going to end up in the ICU in a couple of days, wouldn’t you think that you’d feel a little worse?

Finally, there is no treatment for a flu virus. You’re thinking of the vaccine. If you have H1N1, it’s too late for a vaccine. The vaccine doesn’t cause autism and it doesn’t kill. The links between autism and vaccination are tenuous at best (plus the controversy was over the MMR vaccine, not the h1n1 vaccine).

How To Feel Better Flu

September 25th, 2006

how to feel better flu

I have the flu, can you make me feel better?

I will likely go to a doctor soon, but in the meantime, can anyone make me feel better? My symptoms: nausea, headache, sore throat, dizziness, cough, and exhaustion. I threw up once last night and have been sick approximately three days? It’s hard to concentrate on anything and really, having an easily upset stomach, the nausea is the most noticeable symptom. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to treat the flu, and then nausea as a separate thing? (I am often sick in the stomach region.) Thanks!
Today, at least, it’s too late for the doctor.

make some hot sweet tea and homemade chicken soup with lots of carrots in it. be sure to drink and eat this every couple of hours, the important part is drinking once uv eaten and drank the tea fill the tub with hot or warm water and relax and also make sure u gets lots of sleep if u feel very week u can buy some ginger heat it with water to make ginger tea it will taste horrible but in a few days u will feel better.
if u read the back of energy drinks they all have ginger hope this helps get well soon :) also the see a doctor my grandma had the swine flu and she had almost the same effects

Cross Fluctuation

September 24th, 2006

Stock Buy And Sell Signals With The Cci

Stocks and commodities cycle. The Commodity Channel Index (CCI) was created by Don Lambert. It is used to detect when cycles begin and end. Thus, it has been widely used as a buy and sell signal generator for both stocks and commodities.

Even the inexperienced observer is aware that stocks exhibit cyclical and trending behavior patterns. Obviously, traders want to buy early when a stock begins to trend and sell early when that trend comes to an end. The CCI can be a great help in spotting these trend changes. It examines current prices in the light of past prices without using any weighting factors that would artificially distort the raw data. For example, it uses a simple average rather than over-weighting data at one end of the measurement period (as in a weighted moving average or exponential moving average). Comparing current prices to a simple moving average also provides a moving reference point (it always reflects current conditions without biasing it). The equation for the CCI has a divisor that adjusts to reflect price variability. This divisor is smaller when the stock is non-trending (when the stock exhibits less variability) and larger when a breakout occurs (when the stock exhibits large variability). Thus, it reflects both prices and patterns of price fluctuation. In statistics, such numbers are called “measurements of variability.”

The “current price” is not the closing price but the average of the high, low, and close. The divisor (or “measurement of variability”) is the average amount by which the “current price” deviates from the moving average of the “current price” during the period of measurement. The CCI computation is scaled so that 70% to 80% of the random fluctuations fall between –100 and +100.

When Don Lambert developed the CCI, tests were performed for the 5-, 10-, 15-, and 20-day periods of measurement. It was his opinion that although shorter periods like the 10-day CCI detected tops well for a variety of trend lengths, it was not as good at detecting “breakouts.” Most indicators give an exit signal after the extreme price has been reached. The CCI, on the other hand, gives an exit signal at or before the extreme price with unusual frequency. To avoid the excessive whipsawing likely with shorter periods of measurement, Lambert settled on 20 days as the standard period of measurement. However, traders are encouraged to experiment to discover the period that works best for them. Many traders prefer to use 14 days and some prefer to use a combination of periods. Lambert suggests that the period chosen should be less than 1/3 of the cycle length (the cycle length is twice the trend length). This means the ideal CCI measurement will be less than 2/3 of the trend length. For example, the standard 20-day period is 1/3 of a 60-day cycle, and the 60-day cycle has a 30-day uptrend and a 30-day downtrend. Therefore, the 20-day period is most efficient for trends of more than 30 days. You must determine for yourself the trend duration for which you want to optimize the CCI.

Our own charts are plotted with a zero line and with horizontal lines at +100 and –100. Outside these lines we plot two others at +200 and –200 respectively. The latter are considered extreme readings. The rules for trading with the CCI were originally designed for short-term commodity traders. When the CCI crossed above the +100 line it was a buy signal. When it fell below that line it was a sell signal. Similarly, a short sale would be entered when the CCI crossed below -100 and it would be closed out when the CCI crossed above –100. The thinking was that these regions represented occasions when momentum was relatively high and when small profits could be captured in a few days. Since the CCI was originally formulated, other ways of using it have been found. Here are some of the ways our own stockdiscipline.com traders use the CCI.
1. Buy when the line moves above –100 from below (at “F” in the chart) and sell when it drops below +100 (at “E”) or any time it rises above +200. If it does rise above +200, some traders prefer to wait until it drops below that level to sell.
2. Buy whenever the line crosses below –200 or wait until it crosses back above –200. Sell when it crosses from above to below +100.
3. Sell or buy when it crosses an uptrend line or downtrend line respectively. Traders use trendline and pattern analysis on a CCI chart, just as they would on a stock chart.
4. Buy when the CCI bounces off of the zero line. When the CCI reaches the zero line, the stock’s average price is at the moving average used in computing the CCI. Therefore, a bounce off the 20-day CCI zero line occurs when the stock bounces off its own 20-day moving average (that is, the moving average of its daily average price). This is often considered to be a good time to buy because the stock has not only pulled back to its short-term support (providing a relatively low entry price) but it has also reaffirmed its upward trend by bouncing off the average.

Chart patterns normally associated with price data have the same implications when they are found in CCI charts. For example, the head-and-shoulders top consists of 3 highs with the center high greater than the highs on either side. The head-and-shoulders bottom consists of 3 lows with the center low below the lows on either side. When the price of a stock crosses below such a line on a price chart, it is considered a sell signal. The same is true when this happens on a CCI chart. Likewise, an upside-down or inverted head-and-shoulders pattern can give a buy signal. A crossover of the neckline of an inverted head-and-shoulders pattern on the CCI would be the triggering event. Compare the signals generated by the CCI (trendline penetrations, head-and-shoulder neckline penetrations, and other signals) with the price action of the stock at those signal points. The CCI can be uncannily predictive.

The indicator is not perfect. No indicator is, but there are ways to address those shortcomings. False buy signals, for example, can be addressed by waiting for a greater move above the line, by waiting a day or two to see if the CCI reverses, or by waiting for the “rejection” from (or “bounce” off of) the +100 or –100 line after the crossover. If after crossing above the –100 line the CCI line comes back to –100, reverses, and continues upward, the buy signal could be considered to have been given when it bounced off the –100 line. Since the “bounce effect” does not always occur, it is well to remember that the CCI can be used in combination with other indicators and in conjunction with an analysis of the price pattern itself. The CCI crossing above the –100 line while the stock price hits a plunging 20-day average, for example, would be a good reason for a trader to wait and see what happens. That 20-day average represents resistance. The odds are that the stock will bounce off the average and decline again. On the other hand, if the 20-day moving average is slowing down in its descent or leveling off, the stock could very well penetrate it.

Comparing the CCI to the chart of the stock and analyzing the pattern of the CCI in conjunction with the pattern of the stock can give remarkable insight into the stock’s behavior and greatly help in the timing of purchases and sales.
