Antidepressants

In 2002, 8.5 percent of the population of noninstitutionalized U.S. civilians had purchased at least one prescription antidepressants. Classes currently available antidepressants include monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), tricyclic antidepressants (TCA), selective inhibitors of serotonin reuptake (SSRIs), serotonin, reuptake inhibitors norepinephrine (SNRIs), the new antidepressants and tetracyclic antidepressants.

MAOIs act by inhibiting monoamine oxidase, an enzyme complex that metabolizes excess serotonin and epinephrine. It has the potential to lead to potential problems of life-threatening, and therefore can not be used in patients with congestive heart failure or in those with a history of liver disease. It is dangerous to those who are hypersensitive to its ingredients. The important of this class of drugs includes isocarboxazid (Marplan), moclobemide (Aurorix, Manerix, Moclodura), phenelzine (Nardil), tranylcypromine (Parnate), levo-deprenyl (selegiline, Eldepryl), and harmala.

Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) act mainly by inhibiting the reuptake of both norepinephrine and serotonin. Although the type of side effects experienced by the patient due to TCAs or MAOIs are similar on several occasions, the frequency of these side effects is much less in the case of TCA. Thus, ACT enjoy a better rate of acceptance by patients. The interests of the ACT in the treatment of depression include amitriptyline (Elavil, despite, Tryptanol), amoxapine (Asendin, Asendis, Defanyl, Demolox, Moxadil), clomipramine (Anafranil) desipramine (Norpramin, Pertofrane), dothiepin hydrochloride (Thaden, Prothiaden), doxepin (Adapin, Sinequan), imipamine (Tofranil), Iofepramine (Lomont, Gamanil), nortriptyline (Pamelor), protriptyline (Vivactil), and triimipramine (Surmontil).

SSRIs act by inhibiting serotonin reuptake, and are considered the most popular, effective and safe drugs. SSRIs used to treat depression include citalopram (Celexa), escitalopram oxalate (Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac, Prozac Weekly, Sarafem), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil, Paxil CR) and sertraline (Zoloft). Prozac, a drug of this class, has shown great success in the treatment of depression and suicide prevention. It has fewer side effects compared with TCAs and MAOIs, and is well tolerated.

IRSN is currently available (desipramine, Duloxetine, nefazodone, and venlafaxine) keep both serotonin and norepinephrine at relieving symptoms of depression. Nefazodone alleviates anxiety, sedation and causes positive effects on sleep. Venlafaxine (Effexor) has anticholinergic effects (dry mouth, blurred vision, urinary hesitancy and constipation), induces sedation and the potential effects of withdrawal.

The drug bupropion (Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin SR) is the most commonly used member of the novel Antidepressant class. It is unique in its effectiveness in inhibiting the reuptake of dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. Maprotiline (Ludiomil) and mirtazapine (Remeron) are the two main drug group tetracyclic antidepressants. Mirtazapine works by increasing the amount of norepinephrine and serotonin, and is particularly beneficial for the treatment of depression accompanied by anxiety, agitation and / or sleep disorders.

Natural Antidepressants that impress their effectiveness on experts from St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum), SAM-e (S-adenosyl-L-methionine), and 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan). Natural antidepressants that are in need of research studies to prove their effectiveness, safety and ease of use in the treatment of depression include herbs (Ginseng and Ginko), amino acids (L-tyrosine and phenylalanine ), and certain nutrients, including B vitamins.

Antidepressants provides detailed information about antidepressants, antidepressant comparisons, antidepressant medications, antidepressant side effects and more. Antidepressants is the sister site of Canada Mail Order Pharmacy.

Preventive Care for Swine flu

Swine flu is a highly contagious respiratory disease on high alert (WHO cautions a Global pandemic). Swine flu occurs in pigs caused by a virus. H1N1 (Influenza A) is a new strain of virus is causing the flu in human beings. The serious consequences are due to pneumonia.

The Swine Flu spreads to other humans as a normal flu spreads - by sneezing, coughing, physical contact with infected persons, etc. One is contagious a day before any symptoms (fever, sneeze and other flu symptoms) start showing. Symptoms usually appear following an incubation period of 1 to 4 days. The carrier may be unaware of infection he is carrying or spreading the virus.

Children can remain contagious for up to 10 days. Children, elderly and chronically ill are at higher risk of serious complications such as bacterial bronchitis and pneumonia.

All should be extremely careful to prevent themselves as well as spread of the disease. Following preventive measures are advised

  • Frequently wash of hands with SOAP and water
  • Avoid touching face (mouth, nose) until hands are washed
  • Avoid handshakes, hugs, kisses and close contacts
  • Avoid crowded places
  • Stay at an arm’s length from other person, especially one with flu symptoms
  • Avoid common swimming pools
  • Do not share food, cutlery, glasses etc.
  • Use personal water bottles, coffee mugs, hand towels, towels (do not share)
  • Carry alcohol (60-95%) based hand sanitizers or put them on work stations. Best is still to wash hands with soap frquently
  • Cover coughs and sneezes; throw away used tissues in the bins
  • Try sneezing into your elbow (rather than hands)
  • Stay home if you’re sick
  • Educate children about all preventive measures
  • Keep offcies and homes clean and ventilated. Use disinfectants to clean items of common use such as Phones, doorknobs, remotes, keyboards, switches, refrigerator handles etc.
  • Flu viruses can live on surfaces for several hours, like a doorknob just touched by someone who sneezed into his hand. Use tissues to handle doorknobs, shopping carts etc. and throw them off. Or use hand sanitizers after handling them. Wipe off gym exerciser handles, buttons etc. with desanitizers before and after use.
  • Use of masks is fine, but it should not be substituted for other preventive measures
  • Personal air purifiers can be used
  • Do not spit in public
Do not take any medicines without consulting a physician
  • Avoid unnecessary travel. Choose e-mails, phones, videoconferences, work from home options
  • Avoid visiting cluster areas where there are cases already or inviting people from those areas

Strengthen General Immunity/ Resistance

  • Do not stress or be a cause of Stress (Physical, Mental or Emotional). Stressed bodies are more prone to infections
  • Sleep Well
  • Take rest breaks and Relax
  • Drink lot of water to keep hydrated and keeping the system flushed
  • Eat healthy food rich with Vitamin C (Lemon, Gooseberry)
  • Use more natural disinfectants and immunity boosters in your diet such as Garlic, Ginger, Tulsi (Basil), Honey, Black pepper, Turmeric, Cloves, Cinnamon and Licorice*. Experts advise consuming Tulsi leaves, garlic cloves or other herbs paste or decoction empty stomach in the morning.
  • Sun exposure or Vitamin D supplementation may also be of benefit
  • Keep your body oxygenated. Do deep breathing and Pranayam
  • Exercise, it destresses and improves blood circulation and oxygenates body
  • Use of Neem (Azadirachta indica) is highly recommended in India to keep away from viral and bacterial infections. Neem leaf extracts ehance immunity. Burning neem leaves purifies the atmosphere. Vedic system also recommends Agnihotra for purifying air. Fire element dries humidity in air (which checks virus growth) while the herbs also have antimicrobial properties

*(Pregnant women should not consume these herbs in high doses as these may cause bleeding)

Swine flu is more serious and riskier than SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, 2002-03). SARS patients were infectious only after the onset of fever and other symptoms. There are bigger risks of serious complications like pneumonia which could be fatal. Swine flu is likely to come in waves. Apparently it is being circulated among pigs to humans (Spanish flu 1918-1919) and humans to pigs.

Symptoms

  • Sore throat, Runny nose Fever
  • Body aches, Headaches, Muscle and joint pain
  • Chills and fatigue
  • Sometimes vomiting or diarrhea

Diagnosis

A nasopharyngeal (nose and mouth) swab is collected and sent to lab to be tested in the rist 24-72 hours of symtoms.

Treatment

  • Oseltamivir (Tami flu) and Zanamivir (Relenza) are the prescribed medications for Swine flu. The drugs should not be taken without infection (Center for Disease Control and Prevention of U.S.A.).
  • New H1N1 strain vaccines are being developed and could be ready by September.

Electric Flutes

Electric Guitar vs. Keyboard(Piano)?

Hi, I’m kind of stuck. So I’ve been playing the flute since 5th-7th grade so about 1-3 years. Well now I want to play a different instrument, but I can’t decide between a keyboard or electric guitar. I know it’ll be a little easier for me to learn how to play a keyboard piano because its in the key of C which is the same as a flute I think. But I really like the guitar too because it’s cool. But like everyone and their mom plays it, so I’m stuck.

Any opinions, tips or advice would be great. If I could I’d learn both, but I’ve gotta pick.

Play both..Just because there is alot of people playing guitar doesnt mean you shouldnt. There is alot more people than you think who play a keyboard. I would get both. You dont have to get a expensive keyboard or guitar at first. If it turns out you like one better then the other you can sell it! well i hope i helped somewhat -Joe

Swine Flu Prevention

The swine flu is spreading at a rapid pace and raising concerns all over the society. The disease is epidemic- it doesn’t take time to diffuse from household to another and at the end dominates the entire region. There is uproar of panic all over. People are afraid of it and trying their best possible way to escape from it Swine flu. No one is willing to become the next victim. What if the correct measures are missed out and your child or you yourself adopt the unwanted infection?

Various pharmaceutical companies are offering vaccinations. The government is obliged to safe the citizens from the flu and thus imposing Quotas on imports from Mexico together with other infected regions. People anxious to save themselves are rushing to the pharmacies for medications, gathering best cleaning sprays for their households and so on. All this may go worthless if you don’t mind your own cleaning habits in time. There are essential easy steps to be taken in order to prevent the deadly Swine flu.

Firstly to be precautious it’s important you stay totally clean. What I mean by “totally clean” is not just taking shower accordingly and washing your hands after meals but to stay clean all the time. To wash your hands and face in repeated intervals with antibacterial cleanser which can easily be purchased from the nearest pharmacy. These are used at doctor chambers and there remains no doubt it will be effective for your safety. Together with it has the potential to clean your hands not only from the external surface but deeply digs the dirt. So using these hand wash to clean your hands for minimum of 50 to 60 seconds is the number one precaution.

Secondly, it is a typical case when you straightly cough or sneeze into your hands, avoiding using handkerchiefs. One should cough or sneeze into the arms or most flexibly use a tissue paper and throw way rather then utilizing your hands. Following this one should immediately wash hands if accidentally one has sneezed or coughed into the hands. This will prevent the Flu highly. The truth is germs travel in this simple procedure. It can be your computer mouse, door tab, car keys and the list is endless. It is also no rumor but a hard fact that Swine flu can be transferred form person-to-person. Yes, if you are the victim of it then it won’t be too late that your beloved daughter will accompany you if precaution are not taken. Ignore contact with your family members and outsiders if you are suffering from the flu- this expands the cases of scattering the disease in every corner.

Other than this you also need to remember to maintain a healthy diet in order to possess anti-protective immune system. Drink filtered water which doesn’t have the possibility to be infectious plus fresh vegetables.

Don’t just keep this to yourself but implement to carry out the exercise and protect your Family member form the Swine Flu at the earliest point. Is it not better to take prevention beforehand rather then suffering from it afterwards??

Acute Renal Failure Treatment - How To Reverse Your Kidney Disease Through A Special Secret Diet

Acute renal failure treatment is mainly based on preventing and treating its damaging effects. As with any other condition, prevention is the primary course of action. Attaining and maintaining sufficient water and diuresis in potential patients is essential, as is the deterrence of contributing causes.

When acute renal failure has developed, prompt detection and action assist restoration of optimal renal function. Prompt correction of the underlying condition, such as hydration for a client with hypovolemic shock, may be all that is vital. Tips on acute renal failure treatment.

-Nutritional needs are also determined by the treatments that are used by the patient for example dialysis. Another determinant of nutrition and diet is the cause of ARF. Patients who have trauma, burns, or infections have generalized variations to those who had ARF caused by other diseases. The patient’s appetite is affected by various diseases and medications that increase the need for nutritional balance.

-Adequate energy ought to be provided for patients with acute renal failure to be able to provide sufficient amount of weight maintenance and to meet the demands of stress accompanying ARF, usually 30-40 kcal/kg of body weight.

-Fats, oils and simple carbohydrates, and low protein starches should give non protein kilo calories.

-In cases where dialysis is not a treatment alternative, protein should be regulated to 0.6 grams per kilogram body weight. Although this is a favorably accepted value, it should not go beyond 40 grams on any being.

-Under dialysis treatment, it is much less restrictive on protein as it can be individualized to 1.0 to 1.4 g/kg of body weight.

-On both occasions, the use of biologically high value proteins is strongly recommended.

-Sodium salt might be controlled to 1000 to 2000 mg and potassium to 1000 mg per day in the oliguric phase. These are two of the most essential electrolytes that the body needs and they may be lost during the period of frequent urination. Thus, replacement might be essential.

-Fluids are also observed closely. They are compensated basing upon how much water does the body get rid of each day including vomitus, urine and diarrhea.

Acute renal failure treatment as with any handling, needs the support and obedience of treatment from the client.

Fluke recalls digital clamp meters
FLUKE has issued a voluntary recall of a number of its Fluke 333, 334, 335, 336 and 337 Digital Clamp Meters manufactured between 3 March 2008 and 27 February 2009.
According to Fluke, the affected digital clamp meters have a defect which can cause the meter to display a low or no voltage reading, even on a circuit energised with a hazardous voltage.
Fluke says the risk can be somewhat managed if the technicians continue the practice of testing the meter on a known live circuit before and after checking the circuit under test is maintained.
Fluke warns that if the meter does not pass the ‘known live circuit test’, the technician should stop using the meter, identify it as faulty, and remove it from service.
Fluke says customers should stop using the affected meters immediately, and return suspect products to the place of purchase. Upon confirmation of the serial number, Fluke will replace the affected meters free of charge.
The company has since redesigned all clamp meters to correct the problem.

Stool Replacement Fluids

August 29th, 2006

stool replacement fluids

what do I give my son with nausea and diarrhea?

My 2 year old son was admitted to hospital on Sunday for dehydration. Kept overnight for IV fluids and sent home yesterday. Today has been drinking water throughout the day has had toast in am and a banana for lunch (he doesn’t have much of an appetite) but has started to have large amounts of loose liquid stools again 4 times so far today. He refuses to drink any sort of oral replacement and I have tried everything even the pedialyte pops. wont eat jello. He is very stubborn and usually only drinks water and milk. I have not given him any milk but what should I do I don’t want to end up back in the hospital.
he will not take any popsicles or slush any other suggestions?

Ask his pediatrician if he can be given an antidiarrheal. If the answer is no, resort to the BRAT diet — Bananas, plain steamed Rice, Applesauce and dry Toast — until he’s had formed stools for 24 hours. You can alternate toast with crackers. Allow him to drink water ad lib but keep the meals small and frequent, perhaps 4-6 times a day. Avoid Jell-o. Let him have a certain amount of milk as long as it doesn’t worsen the diarrhea or cause abdominal cramps.

Also ask the pediatrician about an antiemetic. This will treat the nausea and possible vomiting.

You can try serving him Junior foods to replace electrolytes — bananas for potassium, whatever you give him should have salt for sodium & chloride, spinach for magnesium, milk for calcium, there’s no food source for bicarbonate.

In any case, his pediatrician needs to be kept informed. Make the call.

back flush toilets

Can you catch the aids virus from splash back when you flush a public toilet?

I flushed a toilet in a unisex bathroom, and while I was pressing down the flusher with my sneaker, some water splashed back and touched my tongue.

Do I have aids?

HIV is not able to survive outside of a host. A toilet is not a suitable host. Also your mouth has alot of enzymes and bacteria in it and it would kill many things that enter it. Amylase is the primary enzyme in your mouth/saliva. It helps start digesting food when you eat. You probably just got a little urine/poop water on your tongue. i would use strong mouthwash and next time dont have an open mouth when you flush! and turn away! YES U HAVE FULL BLOWN AIDS NOW!!!!!
