Relieve Flu Symptoms With Herbs

Homeopathic treatment is a non-toxic method of medicine used to treat a wide variety of health problems. Homeopathic remedies which include using herb and vitamins has been widely studied. Many physicians have incorporated homeopathic remedies into their treatment plans for many illnesses. There is good scientific proof that herbal therapy — will work to stimulate the body’s own immune system to alleviate symptoms when the body is ill. One such illness that plagues society today is Influenza.

Influenza (flu) is a viral infection that most often attacks the respiratory tract. The flu is very contagious, and is spread quickly by means of contact. By contact I mean touch. The simple shake of a hand, or turning on a water tap, can lead to the spread of flu. One of the problems with flu, a person is contagious for two days before realizing they have come down with it. This is one of the reasons it is so hard to stop the spread of flu.

Symptoms may vary from person to person in severity. The symptoms may include, congestion, sore throat, fatigue, fever and chills, aches, lack of appetite, headache, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Depending on the virility of the influenza strain Symptoms may last 4 to 7 days.

Due to influenza being a virus, treatment is geared toward alleviating symptoms and providing comfort. There are many wonderful herbal remedies that will aid in easing the discomforts of the flu. All of which can be purchased at your local health food store. To name a few—

Ginger tea, made from a fresh ginger root, chopped and boiled for 15 min. can help ease a sore throat, and aid with congestion problems. It also is great at settling upset stomach. Works well to curb nausea.

Anise tea will thin mucus, and make it much easier to rid the body of mucus build up.

For indigestion, fever, and an all around relaxing effect. Try catnip. For headache and sore throat, Tilden flower tea, works wonders.

Cayenne pepper in soup or juice will clear the sinuses in a snap…

Raw garlic or garlic capsules help prevent antibacterial infections that can accompany the flu. Other herbs that have the properties to aid against infection, and are said to shorten the duration of the flu are, Echinacea, Elderberry.

For restless nights, try Camille tea. Add two tea bags in a cup of boiling water. It is very soothing, and promotes restful sleep.

If heavy congestion is a problem, and you have a humidifier, add a few drops of eucalyptus oil or peppermint oil. It will help gradually open the airway. Peppermint oil is also wonderful for adding a bit under each nostril, it helps clear the nasal passage quickly.

I have only mentioned a handful of herbal remedies that will benefit a person when ill. There are many wonderful herbs that will not only help one feel better when they are under the weather, but will aid in keeping ones body healthy. I hope I have planted the seed curiosity, and this article will encourage readers to look further into herbal solutions to treat illnesses.

Got Flu Shot Issues?–7 Non-Invasive Ways to Avoid The Flu

The flu shot is great if you healthy will allow you to receive it. If, however, for whatever reason you are unable to get the vaccine, all is not lost. Here are 7 non-invasive things you can do to stay healthy without the shot.

Pick Your Company–As the weather changes many people are caught by cold and flu viruses. If they are sneezing and coughing, the small droplets that go airborne can be ingested or inhaled thus allowing the virus to spread form them to you, so avoid people who are obviously contagious.

Large groups of people should be avoided when possible as well because you can’t always be sure who is and who is not contagious. School age children who are sick are also good to avoid because they don’t always remember to cover their mouths when they sneeze or cough, and can very easily pass their germs to you.

Eat Your Vegetables–Your mother’s advice was sound. Eating your vegetables, fruits, lean meats, fish, and foods that are low in fat, sugar, and salt are all ways to boost your immune system and make it more able to natural defend your body against contagions.

Disinfect Common Surfaces–Use antibacterial wipes at least weekly to wipe down commonly used surfaces such as handles, computer keyboards, door knobs, kitchen surfaces, microwave handles, refrigerator handles and surfaces in the bathroom.

The steering wheel, door handles, and other controls in your car are important places to wipe down as well. These are all places where germs can easily transfer from one hand to another and gain a foothold into your body through the mouth, nose, or eyes.

Stay Well Rested–Be sure to get proper rest. For most these means t least 6 to 8 hours of sleep. A body that is well rested is stronger and likely to be more effective in fighting germs.

Reduce Your Stress–This is easier said than done, but if you take this in small pieces it will help make your days more enjoyable, thereby reducing stress. How? Set aside some time every day to do something you like.

Take time to laugh. It’s a cheap and effective way to release tension and stress. Make time for you. There is seemingly always time for everyone else’s request, and in fact there’s time for yours too–you just have to take it.

Be creative about the activities you choose, and vary them often. Watching a favorite TV show, video, or movie on days when the weather is bad can be just what the doctor ordered. Walking your dog, sprucing up the garden, or having a massage are all great ideas. You matter too! A body that experiences low stress is more likely to be able to stay healthy.

Wash Your Hands–This is probably something your mom use to tell you too. And she was right again. Keeping your hands clean is still one of the best ways to avoid germs.

Wash them when you get to a new place (like work or school), and wash them again when you come home. This cuts down on germs ability to travel from one place to another.

Use A Medical Grade HEPA Air Purifier–Filtering the an air purifier that has a medical grade high efficiency particle arresting (often shortened to HEPA) filter means that you are able to reduce the number of bacteria and viruses in your air down to .3 microns.

By definition, a HEPA has to remove 99.97% of .3 micron particles with 99.97% efficiency. Or put another way, it will remove 99,997 particles out of every 10,000 which greatly reduces the number of bacteria and viruses that will be able to find you this flu season.

Girl Gets Bad Flu Shot

March 28th, 2006

girl gets bad flu shot

Should I get the flu shot?

I’m debating if I should get the flu shot this year. I’m 13 and a girl if that’s relevant. I don’t really like needles and I’m a big baby and start crying when I have to get one. Still, I would knowingly torture myself to get a needed shot. I’ve gotten sick this year a few times and I get sick all the time so I think it might be good for me but I’m open to opinions if I should or should not get the flu shot. My mother says I don’t really need one but if I want one she’ll take me to get it. (I have all my needed and recommended shots except Gardisil.(My doctor, my mom, and I think it’s a bad idea and not needed.) ) Right now I’m probably not going to get the shot until I hear more good outweighing the bad about getting the flu shot. Thanks!

P.S. I hate getting sick and I’d rather be in accidental pain than be in accidental sickness.

u dnt really need to get a flu shot… but it does prevent getting the flu. since u hate getting sick then just go get the flu shot and get it over with. its like a minute of pain over a week.

And I Thought I Had It BAD!!!!!!

Difference Swine Flu Seasonal Flu

March 27th, 2006

How To Travel Safely During Flu Season

Earlier this year, thousands of travelers to Mexico either cut their trip short of canceled plans altogether once news broke about the swine flu virus. Several months have passed since then and the initial scare is over. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the threat of getting sick.

The swine flu, also referred to as the H1N1 virus has now spread to every state within the United States making it a realistic threat to everyone’s health. As we move into a major holiday travel season, the chances of coming in contact with someone who is sick with either the regular flu or the swine flu increases. Over half of the people polled in a recent survey (51%) have said they would travel while sick due to the strict policies regarding canceling or re-booking flights on most airlines.

Visitors to the United States have the option to purchase visitors medical insurance which provides an extra layer of coverage while living or visiting relatives in this country. It is important to know ahead of time what conditions or procedures are covered when purchasing a visitors health insurance policy. Even though not all procedures are covered, having visitors medical insurance can save visitors hundreds if not thousands of dollars should they find themselves in need of medical care during their stay in the United States.

Here are a few other trips to ensure safe travel during the flu season:

  • Limit contact with people who show symptoms of being sick- This may be easier said then done, however it just makes sense to try to avoid contact with others who are coughing, sneezing or showing other signs of being sick. It is unknown whether or not disposable paper masks make a difference in preventing the spread of either type of flu.

  • Wash hands frequently- When it comes to preventing the spread of germs, hand washing is still the number one way to reduce your chances of getting sick. If you do not have access to soap and water, carry and use an alcohol based hand sanitizer. You can also carry sanitizer wipes which can be used to wipe down surfaces that come in contact with many travelers.

  • Don’t spread germs- If you are the person coughing or sneezing, make sure you are doing your part to prevent the spread of germs or illness. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue and dispose of used tissues properly. If you do not have tissues, cough or sneeze into a shirt sleeve to avoid contaminating other surfaces.

  • Do not take unnecessary risks- If you have a condition which makes you especially vulnerable to the flu, consider postponing your travel until the peak of the flu season has passed. High risk travelers would include adults over the age of 65, pregnant women and children under the age of 5. Anyone who has a chronic illness of a suppressed immune system should limit exposure to other sick individuals.

It is not possible to completely avoid all instances where you might come in contact with someone who is sick. Nevertheless, by following these tips you may be able to reduce your chances of coming down with the flu while traveling this holiday season.

Fluorescent Light Starter Holder

March 27th, 2006

fluorescent light wattage/watts question?

I bought a custom built display case, along the top is a lighting strip thats starters a 2 spots for bulbs, The starters are 20w and the bulbs are 20w.
My question is, can I put higher watt bulb in if I use the same watt starters (as in buy new ones to match my higher watt bulbs)
Obviously, I wouldn’t ask such a stupid question unless I thought that the display case just had a low wattage bulb/starter selection inserted by choice, not by any wattage restrictions caused by the actual fixture itself.
I say that because (and I am ignorant of this to a point so I may be way off here) the lamp holders have a 660 watts, 600 V Rating.
they are a Kulka 590.b (b= black in color)
2 of them on one plug/power lead
what I need/want to know is how high of a wattage I can place in it, and if so, what would be optimal wattage that would not bleach out my die cast collection or cause my head to explode when I look at my electric bill every month.

Info below

link
http://www.scelectri

I might be wrong here, but I thought the wattage of a fluorescent was relative to it’s length? In other words if you get a higher wattage fluorescent bulb it’ll be longer.

Get That Pregnancy Glow

You all know what I am talking about. That glow we all want when we are pregnant but rarely get; one of the only positive perks for our skin during pregnancy.

It isn’t just an old wives tale. Some women (curse them) really do get that glow. What is it from, you ask? When you’re pregnant, your body produces 50% more blood; this increased blood flowing through your body tends to brighten your face. Your body also produces more hormones that can cause you to create more oils which will leave your face shinier. Put these together and you have a wonderful, luminescent glow. Not fair for those of us who just end up with acne. Here are some tips I wish I would have known when I was pregnant to get that glow:

Drink Lots of Water
Water is good for you for so many reasons, one of those being your skin. Drinking an adamant amount of water will hydrate your skin and create a fresh look for your face. You should be drinking in-between 8 and 10 glasses of water a day anyway’s - that’s about two quarts. If plain water doesn’t tantalize your taste buds, try sparkling water or squeeze a little fruit juice for added flavor.

Shimmer
The perfect complement to pregnant skin, shimmers will definitely boost that expecting glow. Use on brows, cheekbones and eyelids.

Bronzer or Blush
Get a touch of sun anytime! Sheer, silky-light bronzer powders can deliver a healthy-looking glow during any season. Sweep on the cheeks, nose, and chin, were the sun naturally hits your face. Don’t overdo it or else you’ll look like you spent too long in the tanning bed. Bronzer should enhance your natural beauty, not dominate your complexion.

To find the right shade of blush, choose a shade that matches the color of your cheeks when they are flushed after being exposed to cold temperatures or after doing physical activities. When using blush, it’s important to apply it to the right area of your face. Blush is supposed to be applied to the “apples” of the cheeks. To find the apples of your cheeks, look in a mirror and smile. After dabbing your brush or applicator with some color, use gentle, sweeping motions starting at the center of your apple, and move up and outwards towards the corner of your eye and up to the temple.

Sunscreen
Make sure to put sunscreen on every morning before applying your makeup. Even during the winter months, the sun’s damaging UV rays can dry your skin, cause premature aging, break down cells and even cause cancer. Many facial creams contain sunscreen, so apply it faithfully.

Moisturize
Even if your skin becomes oilier during pregnancy, don’t skip your daily moisturizer. It’s important to keep your skin soft and moisturized. Try a good water-based moisturizer that will minimize the oil and won’t clog your pores, but will still keep your skin nourished.

Get Enough Sleep
The discomfort of later pregnancy can keep you from a good night’s sleep. To relax you and help you sleep, try getting a prenatal massage; or better yet, have your partner give you a nice back rub or foot massage just before bed.

Foundation
If your skin is breaking out or just oily switching to a foundation for oily skin or using loose powder mineral makeup can help. Both have oil-blotting properties and won’t irritate skin with acne.
You can also use a mattifying product underneath your makeup to soak up excess oil, or dab your face with blotting papers during the day to help remove excess oil.

Flu Spray Vs Flu Shot

March 26th, 2006

H1N1 vs. seasonal flu — medical facts only please.?

what is so different about the swine flu that we are hearing about how many deaths it has cause. why doesn’t the seasonal flu do this? and i got a seasonal flu shot, but i have been told by 3 different doctors that it is medically UNNECESSARY to get the h1n1 vaccine as well. and i’ve been told the h1n1 vaccine in the form of a nasal spray contains the live virus, so i absolutely WILL NOT get that. what age groups is h1n1 fatal to? i’d really like as many details on this as i can…. i know several people that have already had it… i hope i am not next. i just wish to have all the info i can on this epidemic…. the more educated i am, the better. although we are all very much entitled to our own opinions, i ask that you PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND to this with just an opinion. i am looking for medical advice and facts. thank you.

A few times a century a new flu crosses over from animals to humans. Flu viruses are far worse when they first cross over into humans, because they are completely unfamiliar to our immune system, and it takes longer for our immune system to recognize them and respond appropriately. (The normal seasonal flu usually has a few surface proteins in common with a flu you’ve had them in the past…which helps your immune system recognize it and respond appropriately.)

Even so, healthy people normally recover just fine. Your typical flu pandemic usually just kills the old, the sick, and infants. It kills them indirectly, if your immune system is weak to begin with, than fighting off the flu virus leaves your immune system too exhausted to fight off anything else, and if you THEN run into the wrong bacteria, it can kill you.

The 1918 flu virus did something else. It killed mostly young people. It is believed it somehow caused their immune system to over-react and cause “friendly fire” damage to their lungs.

This new swine flu started out killing a bunch of high school students in Mexico. This worried some people, and conjured specters of the 1918 flu. Since then the swine flu has killed more young people than expected. However, the absolute numbers of people it killed are not that high…it doesn’t kill more people than a normal flu, it just kills younger people, on average.

Pregnant women, people with asthma, and people with compromised immune systems seem to be most vulnerable.

Sam says take this safe alternative to the harmful flu shot and flu mist; Oxysilver
