Swine Flu Over 65

June 30th, 2005

swine flu over 65

2 people in my county died of swine flu this month and they were both over the age of 65. I don’t get it?

The US government is only allowing high risk people to get the vaccination. I am 37 with a heart condition and they gave me the vaccination, but my mother is 68 with a heart condition, asthma , and diabetes and they will not give it to her. Why?

Nyquil Cold And Flu Liquid

June 30th, 2005

Nyquil cold and flu made me have ?

Overdose symptoms, and i only took two (the liquid gel kind).I had every symptom, nausea , low fever , vomitting, dizziness, everything. I used to overdose alot (it’s been a year since i’ve done it) so i know what it’s like , but i don’t know why it happened with the nyquil. That’s all i took that night and the effects lasted until today (3 days) Does anybody have any idea why?

first of all it is great that you stopped O/ding

Have you had blood work lately testing your kidneys and Liver
even if you took small O/D’s over time they can cause damage.
you need to know if both of them are healthy.
as some med’s are hard on them.

if your Kidneys and liver are healthy
and If you only took two teaspoons you did not O/D

You were sick that would account for the Low fever body aches and headaches..
if you have the flu that could account for the nausea and vomiting.

if you look on the bottle or carton.
you will find that it can cause nausea /vomiting/dizziness/sleepiness.
even if you took the day time kind.

any medicine can cause these symptoms
they just do not cause them in most people

There is another thing to consider.
if you no longer take med’s on a reg bases
with the history of taking O/D’s your body might reject med’s to protect it’s self

I have seen it with some one who took lots of O/D’s their bodies would not allow them to take med’s

it took years for them to get back to normal

June 30th, 2005

Cipro- Source of Treat Bacterial Infections

Cipro, an antibiotic in a group of drugs called fluoroquinolones is used to care for different types of bacterial infections such as infections of the lower respiratory tract, the abdomen, the skin, the bones and joints, and the urinary tract including bladder inflammation in women. It is also prescribed for severe sinus or bronchial infections, infection diarrhea, typhoid fever, inhalational anthrax, infections of the prostate glands, and some sexually transmitted disease. Some doctors prescribed Cipro for certain serious ear infections, tuberculosis, and some of the infections common in people with AIDS. It fights bacteria in the body. It works by stopping the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to stay alive. Bayer pharmaceuticals introduced it.

The intravenous formulation of Cipro was introduced more than 15 years ago. Cipro is available as a tablet and an oral suspension. This medication is effective only for certain type of bacterial infections, before beginning treatment your doctor may perform tests of identify the specific organisms causing your infections. This drug may also be prescribed for children with a urinary tract infection or kidney infection when other antibiotics are not effective. Patients can take Cipro with or without food. This drug should not be taken with dairy products such as milk or yogurt or calcium fortified juices alone. Cipro may be taken with a food that has these products. Cipro works well when there is a stable quantity in the blood and urine.

To help keep the level stable, endeavor not to miss any dose and take them at in the region of the same time every day. If patients have any serious side effects like sudden pain or swelling near joints, queasiness, stomach pain, low fever, lost desire for food, dark urine diarrhea, chest pain, pounding or fast heartbeats, vomiting, dizziness and many others. Types of Lasers for Hair Removal - Choosing the Right One

There are many different types of lasers used in laser hair removal. Each one caters to different skin and hair types. Your doctor should be able to tell you which laser is best for you. However, in the meantime, here are some helpful guidelines.

Listed below are some of the most common laser types and their wavelength. Several wavelengths of laser energy have been used for hair removal, from visible light to near-infrared radiation. The wavelength is measured in nanometers (nm).

* Argon: 488 or 514.5 nm
* Ruby: 694 nm
* Alexandrite: 755 nm
* Pulsed diode array: 810 nm
* Nd:YAG: 1064 nm

These different wavelengths have allowed people with a variety of skin types to have successful experiences with laser hair removal.

Pulsewidth is also an important consideration. It has been observed in some published studies that longer pulsewidths are safer in darker skin.

Wavelength is another critical factor. Longer wavelengths are safer in darker skin.

Spot size, or the width of the laser beam, affects treatment. Theoretically, the width of the ideal beam is about four times as wide as the target is deep. Most lasers have a round spot about the size of your little finger (8-10 mm).

By now, you might be wondering if this procedure is painful. Well, I can’t lie to you, there is some pain involved. However, for most people it is extremely tolerable. Most people compare it to being snapped by rubber bands.

Fortunately, there are many methods of easing the pain. Epidermal cooling has been determined to allow higher fluences and reduce pain and side effects, especially in darker skin. Four types of cooling systems have been developed:

* Clear gel: usually chilled
* Contact cooling: through a window cooled by circulating water
* Cryogen spray: immediately before/after the laser pulse
* Air cooling: forced cold air at -34 degrees C (Zimmer Cryo 5 unit)

Make sure that your clinic employs some time of cooling system. If needed, your doctor can also give you some topical anasthetic.

You will need multiple treatments for optimal results. Multiple treatments have been shown in numerous studies to be more effective for long-term reduction of hair. Current parameters suggest a series of treatments spaced at 1 month for the face, 2 months for the chest and 3 months for the legs.

Look for a clinic that has a highly experienced and caring staff. With the right guidance and treatments, you could soon be on your way to smooth skin.

Sweating During Flu

June 29th, 2005

sweating during flu

Beating the Common Cold or Flu

You catch a cold or flu virus from someone else but sometimes you do not get it no matter how much contact you have. Why does the immune system sometimes beat it but other times it does not especially in the cold weather. How do you avoid getting colds and flus?

If your immune system is strong enough then you will not get the flu. When a person’s health is too low, the body’s intelligence tries to raise it. The job of the body is to try to make the person fit and healthy, not fat. Its only goal is the best health possible. But people have many other priorities like entertainment, fun, being, getting a lo done, making money and being admired.

So when your health (immune system) drops too low, the body’s intelligence tries to force you to do something about it. How healthy your immune system is, is proportional to how clean or free of toxins the body is. These toxins include the body’s metabolic waste. Your body is constantly eliminating toxins but sometimes it gets backed up. Things that help the body detoxify are heavy sweating caused by heat or exercise, fasting, sleeping and eating a healthy diet. The opposite things, like lack of sleep, causes the body to get backed up with these toxins.

People get less sunlight during the cold weather which means that they get less vitamin D that helps the immune system. During the cold weather people sweat less, so exercise and saunas can help them to sweat more. The skin is one of the 4 excretory organs of the body which also include the lungs, liver and kidneys. The colon is an organ of elimination. It is not an excretory organ since it is outside the body proper. That is medical jargon (2: the technical terminology or characteristic idiom of a special activity or group).

With Bikrams Hot Yoga, you do yoga exercise in a room that is over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and this causes you to sweat a great deal. Americans do have a tendency to over eat and under sleep especially during the holidays. I saw on the forums before Thanksgiving that more people are asking about what to do about a cold.

The body’s intelligence allows you to get sick so you will do the things that you were unwilling to do, like taking off work, eating less and sleeping more. Then after the flu, you are healthier than you were before the flu. If you do not do these things then the flu can last a long time.

The fastest way to get over a cold or the flu is fasting, according to Mark Twain and I. That causes the body to detoxify at the fastest rate possible. The book, Prescription for Natural Healing (by James Balch M.D. and Phyllis Balch CNC), says “When you feel a cold or illness coming on or are just depressed– fast!” If you can’t fast, then just eat only fruit, especially fruits high in vitamin C, until you are better. Fruits require the least amount of digestive energy. You already know about getting plenty of rest and drinking enough fluids.

Here is another variation of fasting that has become popular. Since it is easier and supplies vitamin C in a food form it may be better for colds and flus. When it comes to vitamin pills, try to avoid consuming them. They are not foods. Studies show that they act very differently inside the body than vitamins in foods. Since vitamin C pills are so cheap (about 8 cents each) and each one (500mg) contains the amount of vitamin C in 7 whole oranges, then no one should never get a cold or the flu. But the vitamin C in one whole orange is better for you than 100 vitamin C pills.

Try to buy organically grown produce until the USA becomes as civilized as Russia where it is illegal (a crime) to sell anything but organically grown produce. This alternate fast is discussed on the fasting webpage. It is called Lemonade Diet, Master Cleanse or the Master Cleanser Lemonade Fast. Lemons contain a lot of vitamin C like other citrus fruits. Common Cold With Fever

June 29th, 2005

common cold with fever

common cold with a fever? how long will it last?

hey. on thrusday i started getting a sore throat. then yesterday i had a stuffy nose with the sore throat and alot of coughing. the back of my nose is burning where it connects to my throat. my eyes are watering. today i took my tempature and i have like a low temp. how long should it be till i start feeling better, and would it be ok if my girlfrined cameover? thanks guys
o yeah also, i havent had a fever the other two days. i just started to get one today

Usually a virus with a fever lasts about 3 days. If your fever is lasting more than 3 days, it could be something else. If it doesnt go away by tomorrow I would schedule an appt, you could have strep or it could turn into a sinus infection, which would require a round of antibiotics. If your girlfriend wants to come over and get the same thing you do, then tell her thats fine! Good luck!

Past Flu Pandemics

past flu pandemics

Do you think it’s funny how…?

news reporters harshly stress every negative word?

I’m watching the news for the first time in a few months and I think it’s pretty funny.

They were talking about the swine flu and were like how MILLIONS of people DIED in the pandemics in the past century. It was so funny cuz then he was like “in other news…Michael Kemp DIED…….in other news we will talk about the VANDALS happening…and the HORRIBLE car CRASH….and how people were CRUSHED at the football practice when the tents COLLAPSED…” it was almost as if he was trying to scare us….hmmmm ;P

Survey: Do you find watching the news scary or funny and why?

yes…these days it’s scary because you end of finding out that someone else has died, or other bad news…

Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs Broken

June 28th, 2005

compact fluorescent light bulbs broken

Do modern compact fluorescent bulbs waste energy if you often turn them on an off?

With traditional tube fluorescent bulbs, my understanding is that there is quite a bit of energy required to get them started. For instance, in a public restroom, the lights are typically turned on and off repeatedly during the day, so it might apply that an incandescent bulb would be better …. or leave the fluorescent bulb on.

Do compact fluorescent bulbs share this characteristic?

Is it a true or flawed guideline to use compact fluorescent bulbs mostly in situations where you will be leaving the light on for some relatively extended amount of time? If so, what is the “break-even point” where a compact fluorescent bulb is preferred?

Note: perhaps my impression about tubular fluorescent bulbs is obsolete and they have gotten better.

If you are comparing turning a compact fluorescent lamp on and off as needed with simple leaving it on, the fraction of time it is OFF determines if energy is wasted. A good compact fluorescent lamp is about 6-7 times more efficient than a standard incandescent lamp, so that a 10 watt CF produces about the same illumination (measured in “lumens”) as does a 60 watt incandescent. When first turned on the CF must be heated near its ends so that an electrical arc can be started. This uses extra energy that does not generate useful light. The amount of energy is 3-4 times what the lamp uses when normally illuminated and the starting period varies with the initial temperature, but is usually no longer than several seconds. So, if the desired OFF period is measured in minutes or more, energy would be saved by turning it OFF.
However, there is more to cost than energy usage. A CF normally has a long service life, as great as 10,000 hours (compared to 1000-2000 hrs for an incandescent lamp). But this 10,000 hours is for a lamp that is not turned off. The starting process shortens the life so that a CF lamp that is turned ON and OFF every few minutes will have a much shorter service life (this is also true of an incandescent lamp). Since CFs are relatively expensive to replace, the lowest total operating cost would be obtained by not turning it OFF for periods under 30 minutes or so.

Flu Bacterial Infection

June 28th, 2005

flu bacterial infection

Flu And Cold In Children - Causes And Treatment Explained

If a child’s immune system is weakened for any reason, this child will contract viruses that will cause colds and flus. There are so many strains of these viral infections, there is no permanent treatment that will completely kill these viruses. However, these treatments will surppress the rate of growth. Treating the symptoms can help add in the imporovement of his or her health; but not all children will respond favorable to treatments.

If your child is exposed to another person who is already infected, it increases the risk of your child becoming sick. When your child shows signs of any combination of mild headaches, being excessively tired, congested or runny nose, red and watery eyes, small fevers, sneezing and coughing, achy muscles and sore throats; he or she has contracted the flu and cold virus.

Once your child is exposed, it takes two to five days for him or her to sow symptoms of the virus. Then it takes three to five days for the flu and cold to be at full development. It usually takes about two weeks for the cold or flu to run through the full course and healing begins.

The cold virus affects the upper respiratory system. The flu virus is worse then the cold and grows rapidly. Flu symptoms are combinations of high fever, runny nose, sore throat, congestion, chills, fatigue, nausea, vomiting and eye pain. It is extremely important to be aware of the difference between the flu and cold symptoms.

The flu is more severe than the cold; the cold is easier to overcome, than the flu. the best clue as to what your child may be dealing with , is to recall the instance of exposure and whether it was a cold or the flu. If it is unclear as to what your child is suffering, consult with your family doctor. A swab taken from either the nasal or throat can determine the course of treatment needed for your child.

These viruses are not effected, in any way, by antibiotics. Any antibiotics prescribed, are so given, to ward off any secondary bacterial infections such as ear and sinus infections. Some steps to be taken to assist in the comfort of your child, as best you can, will be assuring he or she takes in plenty of liquids. Another step is to use a cool mist humidifier to help suppress symptoms such as coughing and congestion. There are over-the-counter medications that can assist with congestion, runny nose and cough; but these too need to be handled with extreme care. Read the labels to ensure what you purchase will take care of the problem. If your infant experiences a runny nose, a bulb syringe or nasal drop will be handy to help clean up passages.

It is best to treat any symptoms in the first forty eight hours of onset. If you don’t treat the early symptoms of flu, the infection could worsen into pneumonia.

Research shows: Flu is an infection common with school age children and spreads easily. As many as twenty percent of Amercian citizens become infected every year. As high as twenty thousand victims have died from flu alone.

Flu shots are available and can be recommended by your doctor; this will help prevent most strains of flu and cold viruses. Nasal spray can also be prescribed in place of the shot. both procedures will add in strengthening the immune system, by building antibodies to fight the viruses.

Research aso shows more than a hundred viruses are connected to the cause of the common cold. Many more strains of viruses are connected to the flu. Because of this high number of viruses for flu, nasal spray and shots are available. The nasal spray vaccine has been developed from live weakened viruses. Shots, in the same manner, are developed from completely dead viruses. If a child is exposed to contaminating viruses, he or she may be given the same medicine flu patients recieve.

Not everyone can take flu shots or nasal spray. Some people complain of allergic reaction, people suffering Guillain-Barre syndrome, people allergic to eggs, these are just a few catagories of people who can’t take preventative measures. Always get advice from your doctor before recieving the flu shots.

Those who are at highest risk of contracting flu are:
*Children up to five years old
*Elderly flok of sixty five and older
*Nursing home residents
*Expecting women
*Patients experiencing health problems on a long term (heart conditions, stroke, ect.)
*Health care workers that come into contacty with flu patients
*Home health aids working with the elderly and young
